Bellator 154 - davis vs mo

I personally feel a lot of people don't score Davis's striking because he looks so awkward with it. It's similar to Shields, but the kicks are actually landing.
Totally agree with this. Davis's movement is so awkward and he so often overreacts to strikes that many punches that don't even land are being scored against him. One must watch Davis's fights carefully in order to score them properly. Oblivian has pointed out the importance of body language in MMA judging before and this is a great case of it.

I don't know what heavy shots you guys saw Mo landing. It was clear Davis was trying to avoid the power and would be off balance while Mo threw telegraphed haymakers, but Mo did very little offensively as well. Let me put it this way - if I had to cap what the decision was going to be going into the decision, I'd have been fairly comfortable with Davis. He had the only extremely clear round.

You could literally hear Mo's hooks landing, while Phil landed nothing, Mo dodged everything. As usual though he got too cute with it, and it cost him in the third.

It's what ever though, I just felt it was clear Mo outstruck him. He has a habit of waiting around way too much though.

Body language absolutely killed any chances of Alves getting the decision over Barbarena this weekend as well. Honestly, that fight was one of the more frustrating fights that I've ever watched.

I wish that was always there case. Shit like alves rd 1 with Barb edging 2/3.. Oldies like machida dominating rd 3 when first two razor close .. I wish it always went to the guy who had the big round if the other two were 50/50

Agree 100%

I think it holds true to the probabilities though. If we assume fighter A has an extremely clear round and the other two are 50/50, the probability is much higher for fighter A to get the decision. Sure, fighter B can win, but it's a much lower chance.

right, that's why it's infuriating when you lose in that situation

I agree. No action on that one for me, but I thought Alves won the 2nd round and thus the fight. Body language + Barberena winning the last 90 seconds of round 2 influenced the judges too much.

i agree.

i'm still *shocked* that all 3 judges gave barb 29-28, tho. just shocked. (in brazil, etc)

One misconception is that these judges are all Brazilians. Most aren't. But I agree that the crowd can influence scoring.

That's exactly what I'm talking about when I talk about "scoring in Brazil". Not the judges, but the fans. In most Brazil arena events, the fans usually go pretty wild for any strike a Brazilian fighter throws or lands, etc which could possibly influence scoring.

I don't know if it was just me, but for this past stadium event, the fans didn't seem to be anywhere near as loud as they normally are. I'm assuming it was because the venue was a lot larger than a normal arena. I'm not going to say that that was the concrete reason why the Barb fight wasn't at least a split etc, but I think it could have had something to do with it

Wasn't you. Only time I noticed the fans being loud was when Lil Nog won. And a noticeable silence when Werdum got ktfo

That actually sounds pretty accurate. I don't think I really remember them during the Trinaldo fight much. Maybe I'm bugging tho
