The legistlation was timed to be put through in the next few months I think, and then it'll take another year or two for it to be legal. I'm sticking to my original prediction, that he timed it so it happens right before his re-election.

Probably because there is a very religious aspect to the conservative base in the prairies. Harper hid it well, but he was a religious nut. They stick to the whole war on drugs, anti abortion and LGBT rights sort of thing. This generation is simply not tolerant of that anymore.

I agree. I don't think he gets the nod either. Picking a party leader is different in Canada as well - it's all party insiders. He might lead after the first ballot, but I can't see him being anybodies second choice, so each subsequent ballot he'll start to lose ground until he eventually is dropped off the ballot or somebody else gets the majority. Trudeau would LOVE O'Leary being the Conservative nominee though - it would make it all about him and the crazy things he's said in the past and less about Trudeau being an utter flop.

I hope he can. He's saying the right things and has substance behind it. He needs to change what it means to be a conservative. The religious shit isn't flying anymore and he has a real opportunity to capture the younger generation if he continues to speak about opportunity and standard of living.
