Yair will dwarf Frankie in the cage, he will look considerably bigger due to his length and fight in a range where Frankie has to go through some fire to get inside to work his wrestling. Odds should be much closer, I think Yair can pull a Cody and have the best performance of his career so far.
 
I'm like 2u deep on Yair dec at +420 and I think +385. Only worry is Edgar's wrestling being good enough to control Yair. On the feet I have a hard time seeing Frankie do much when Yair is going to keep him confused at kicking range with all sorts of dope attacks

this ufc 211 is going to be a strange one for me, i'll probably be making a lot of dog plays.

i might do a rr featuring: andrade, vick (odds pending), pettis, yair and masvidal.

A quick browse on page 2 and the only person who said Edgar is declining is #elite bettor MMA Gambling Expert. Sometimes some people make it seem like this is some wide discussion when its only one person.

He is an #elite bettor so its kind of a big deal.
 
edgar's 36 this year, physically it's hard to say he's still in his prime, that combined with the damage he's sustained in his career shows me some ?'s about him
 
Has Frankie really declined THAT much in the last 2 years? Yeah at 36 he's not in his physical prime but as was pointed out, he's lost to Aldo and...Aldo in the last what...6 years or something? How long ago was it that he was straight up DISMANTLING Cub? I'm not sure about everyone else, but I rate Cub as a very good FW and Frankie just wrecked him.

Stephens is a giant FW with huge power (ask RDA). If he lands he generally hurts guys.

Do I like Yair's trajectory and the fact he's younger and more dynamic? Sure, of course. But stylistically, when have we seen him deal with a guy that has anywhere NEAR the the things Frankie brings to the table? Crisp boxing, great TD's and top control, and an endless gas tank?

I still need to do some research (and thankfully have time before this fight) but my first instinct sure as hell isn't to run out and go big on Yair at small to moderate dog odds.

Yes BJ is washed but god damn did Yair slaughter him like no one else has. This guy literally looks better every fight, I know that saying gets used a lot but it's very true here. You can watch the skill progression from fight to fight.

I expect him to be on yet another level that we have not seen before and I think he will overwhelm BJ. Don't sleep on Yair's wrestling either, crazy scrambles too.

Edgar has great fundamentals and has mastered the basics, Yair is anything but basic.

Old school vs New School, I'll take the up and comer, not the guy on his way out.

I agree. Yair has open ended potential where as Frankie could possibly be on decline. We have mainly seen him outgrind other grapler-boxers with stocky build. Frankie hasn't faced that many funky rangy opponents and Oliveira did pretty well agaist him standing. It's three rounds, so if Frankie gets smashed in the first, he won't have four more to grind a win. Frankie likes to fight from the outside and blitz for striking bursts and takedowns. Doing that he will give Yair plenty of oppurtunities to hit him with something unexpected. If it was Frankie's choice to fight Yair instead of Ricardo Lamas, he might not be aiming to the belt anymore and his motivation and confidence are questionable, and that could mean, that Frankie's decline has already begun and he knows it.

Then again, I have a strong bias towards rising talent and I tend to lose all bets I make on technical analysis, so what do I know...

I don't disagree, but Edgar's striking has started to look less and less impressive, and I think Yair's range could maybe give Edgar fits. I don't particularly have a strong lean on this, but I am a complete degenerate and will probably play Yair at dog odds.
