UFC 214 PBP/Discussion

Last 3 fights were a big deal for me. Went super heavy on Jones ML, thought he might finish in rds 4 or 5, ended up betting DEC and Over small-medium. Had Woodley ML super heavy, light on Maia rd 1/2 and Woodley DEC. Main bet in the Cyborg fight was the Over, went medium on that. Lamas earlier n the night was a huge deal, won every bet except Knight SUB. Ended up losing on Lawler since most of my money on him was ITD. Carneiro fucked up. Barao is washed up. Lost all my bets on Manuwa fight except the Under. Lost all bets on Dober fight. Got robbed on Shelton. Slight profit on Curran fght as the Over was my main play. Overall, great night but feel I should have done better.

Travis Browne made me take out the Robalo for a couple weeks to clear my mind and I came back stronger. Will be gone for a while again, good luck on your future bets and I hope DC is ok cause that was sad af.

I had much of the same problem. Forced a lot of action I shouldn't have, but Jones and Woodley parlay made up for it a lot, as I went super hard on that.

At the end of the night I feel the worst for Eric Shelton. I personally feel terrible for that guy. Additionally, I feel bad for people who put money on him like myself ...Ughhh.. fucking charges are ridiculous.

BTW: You'll have to explain to me what Robalo is one day when you get back. I googled it and only seen that it was a fish of some sort LOL

This was a round robin that I put in as 2s and 3s (20 parlays for a total risk of 1u) and it won me 66u. If I wasn't such a pussy and I had done it as a single parlay and 4s as well, it would have cost me an extra 0.3u. If my calculations are right it would have paid approximately another 250u.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about a great hit. I'm just thinking about what could have been and taking it as lesson for myself and others that when it's a tiny risk for a huge reward, fucking go for it (within reason obviously).

For the record, I don't think this an "either or" situation with DC.

I think he took the loss INCREDIBLY hard. I think he was more invested emotionally in that fight than almost anyone I can ever remember in my almost 20 years of following MMA. I think he looked like the best version of him we've seen. He was doing well, landing but fighting a much more calm fight. I haven't seen the scorecards but I'm guessing judging was close after 2 rds. I think he knew he had more in the tank this time to go 5 rounds at his pace. The fight was playing out as he envisioned it to a degree. And then...boom. Everything he poured his heart and soul into when it comes to fighting came crashing down around him. Not only losing again, but this time seeing his previously invincible chin cracked. Having to be told what happened. THE legacy fight of his career and in an instant it's over. For a guy wired like DC, it was too much to handle. AND...

@MMA Goodfella is also correct. You start adding in that his brain had just been short circuited and it most likely is a big force multiplier for everything I just said. They are cutting open the brains of former football players and finding all this CTS stuff in most of them. Obviously the science is in its early stages in terms of what conclusions can be drawn, but you cannot tell me that having your brain suffer that kind of trauma (and make no mistake, that was a BRUTAL knockout where DC took probably 2-3 more shots flush to the side of his head than were needed) and then 4 minutes later it has no effect on you.

So the short version is that yes, DC is super emotional and handled the loss way more poorly than almost anyone else would have. But no way do I believe we'd have seen that type of reaction had he lost another clear cut decision. The brutal KO absolutely played a role in him having that reaction.

Awesome post. And I guess in that was my point too. Would he have acted this way if he was a clear-cut decision. I can say it would be an emphatic NO! . That means a lot considering the circumstances. So, if he was going to be pissed that he lost, what would the fashion matter? The heat of the moment, impulse control from the brain trauma, etc. it all ended in DC acting impulsively.

At the end of the day I believe what you said and @SBJJ have merit. to be accurate, as it is somewhere in the gray area of things,

DC needs to understand though that there is more to life than beating another man in a sporting event. I realize that he puts everything into it and I'm not trying to sound glib here. It's just that it seemed to said it affect him on an insane level. I really wonder how he mentally deals with that going on in life. In the big picture he has a family that loves him and he isn't going to be defined by a loss or a victory to Jon Jones. Not by the people who love him at least.

Oh @mkess101 I told you that the Jones too far in the OSP five was an anomaly. Like I said sky is the limit for the kid. You think how good DC is, and for him to take 465 days with a single fight and then come back and do what he did. That is some out of this galaxy talent,

Lol @ any keyboard warrior complaining about D.C. post fight

It's funny because guys hating on him and questioning his character like that show only that their own character is far worse than what they think his is. Never mind that he just got KTFO'd and didn't know what was going on.
Also that they never had anything worth fighting for, probably have no drive or passion...

Sure. However fighters get KO'd or TKO'd all the time and dont act like DC here.

Its just ironic that the whole narrative going into this was how DC is a model citizen and father etc.meanwhile JJ is a trash human. However when going gets tough DC has a hissy fit and acts like a child.

Sure DC is the pro athlete not me. Like 98% of the UFC take losses and are still respectful. Its called sportsmanship and taking a loss like a man.

Not a Conor nuthugger but when he lost in brutal fashion to Diaz he hopped on the mic and took it like a man.

Silly to make excuses for someone acting like a brat, KO or not.

You have obviously never been badly concussed before my dude.

Lol. I boxed from the age of 11 to 24.

Why do guys say things in here like this?

DC even clarified what happened. I guess he's wrong also

U assume a lot there.

Can you criticize the actions of Donald Trump? Guess not. You are not president. U probably never will be. He obviously is a much better person than u and had much more drive.

Jesus, u guys act like criticizing DC post fight behavior is calling him a bad person. Give it up!

We've got people in here calling him a 'total bitch' and not a 'real man', so....

I guess I hope for their sake they're just mad because they lost money on him, but then that's also ironic because they'd be acting the same way in a loss ;)

To trigger you.

And point out that you can do weird stuff if you're badly concussed without a doubt.

wow @ moicano-ortega getting FOTN. it was fine, but i thought both DC-JJ and cowboy-lawler were clearly better

didn't matter to me, tho

hehehehe don't think that way, the win was incredible, dude :)

I know, I know lol. It's just hard not to when you leave 250u on the table. That could literally be years worth of profit for me. Oh well....

Actually, I'm gonna take it a step farther. I think it's time we reconsider Jones in a historical context (or at least that I do, maybe you an others already were looking at it this way, not sure). After thinking about it a bit this morning, here is what I believe about Jon Jones:

He is not just the best LHW ever. He's not just the best p4p fighter ever. He is the best fighter, regardless of weight, ever. In other words, I'd favor the best version of Jones in one on one hand to hand combat over anyone in human history. Yes yes of course there could be someone at some point that would best Jones with no rules and blah blah blah but in terms of people we've SEEN in actual fights, there's nobody I'd pick to beat him. Not prime Fedor, not prime Cain, not prime Andy Silva, not Stipe now, nobody. Look at DC as a reference point: He went undefeated at HW and EASILY beat top 10 guys like Barnett, Mir, and Bigfoot (back when Bigfoot had chin, was on TRT, and had just pounded out Fedor). You could actually make a case that in an openweight all time hypothetical tournament, DC at his best would be seeded #2. If not, he'd be top 5. And Jones twice now has beaten him. Once by clear decision, last night by brutal KO.

Jones isn't just a special talent (he is that, but he's more). He's cerebral in the cage. For all his knucklehead decisions he's made outside the cage, he's a fighting savant inside it. He's creative, he makes adjustments, and he has killer instinct. His frame is tailor made for hand to hand combat. He has a seemingly granite chin. He has cardio for days. He's simply on another level than anyone we've ever seen, aside from maybe Mighty Mouse (and that's a difficult comparison to even make given the size difference).

DC feels crushed after last night. It's a hard realization to come to that you might (I'm saying MIGHT, not IS) the second best person ever to compete in your sport but you happen to come along during the prime of the best to ever do it and thus a big part of your legacy is that you could not conquer that obstacle.

For sure. Like I said DC took it far worse than almost anyone else would. Call it passion, call it being a baby that can't handle losing, call it whatever you want. I'm just saying the KO played into it too. I fully believe had he lost another decision he would not have acted that way. His brain got short circuited (and keep in mind it was likely the first time he'd ever experienced getting KTFO'd like that).

I'm not saying the behavior was DC's finest moment, because it wasn't. And honestly, I sometimes find DC annoying when he's doing commentary on FOX. But last night was obviously a tough situation, so I'd lean toward sort of giving him a pass on it. It's not like he started throwing chairs and went totally insane. He reacted somewhat poorly. Not that big a deal imo.

I didn't see the total bitch and real man comments. Totally uncalled dor

Nah dude i was on JJ.

I wouldnt care that much if say a Diaz bro pulled that shit. The annoying thing is DC's hypocrisy. He is mr good guy mr responsible but cant lose with class.

The tape is there for anyone to watch. You can even see JJ's expression when DC huffs off and shakes free of Big John. JJ is just like wtf. Even JJ who is a supposed train wreck would lose with more class than that.

exactly that just shows they probably lost money and you can't trust yourself when you yourself get that emotional about a bet losing, it doesn't end well in the long run.
