Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series- Season 2

Gilpin doesn't seem like a world beater, but he is almost certainly better than Coughran.

TUF 27 cast had quite a few low tier guys on the roster...the fact that Coughran was an alternate likely says something about his lack of potential.

Also Coughran is 0-1-1 as a boxer. He was KO'd by a guy who is otherwise 0-3. Granted boxing isn't the same as MMA, but his striking looks pretty ugly and he can't have a good chin if he was KO'd by some scrubbo boxer:

Gilpin's wins seems to have a bit more adversity than you would hope from a -2xx fave, but I think there should be a bit more juice on his side.

He doesn't look good at all either. They are lobbing Kennedy one of the softest matchups of the season

I don't put much stock in him either lol. I just think Kennedy is awful and could lose to any competent fighter. He's huge fade material and might as well try that here.

Hmm I will look into this a bit more, maybe ill just abitrage because I got Coughran at plus 240.

I hear you. But I got the guy at plus 240 and his wrestling both defensively and offensively looks pretty good. I do not think Gilpin is going to walk through him with wrestling at all. I could see it later with Gilpin's cardio edge, but Coughran has shown very good hips, sprawls, whizzers, and other defensive folkstyle wrestling moves. And he has a powerful blast double.

Against horrid opposition tho. Beat two guys in their 40s ffs. Looks very chinny too dropped pretty heavy on three occasions by Carey jabs. Big gym discrepancy too and JR trains part time. But i hear ya at +240. Gilpin looks UFC ready to me tho.

Not betting Coughran but you never know how they choose those guys really. Lots of unknowns with newer fighters and they could want certain personality types for reality tv. Brendan Loughnane was brought in as an alternate on The Smashes and was prob better than 90% of the guys on that season.

Is that boxer the same guy? Boxrec has him listed as a super middle which is 168lbs and 34 yrs old when hes 24

Yeah they just got the decade he was born in wrong. 5/17/94 is his birthday and they have 5/17/84. Also from Oklahoma, with Marty as his name and JR as his nickname. Can't find his KO loss but here is his draw vs Cato:

Damn. His opponent looks huge lol

Gileps striking is pretty bad imo thats why i give JR a pretty decent chance as i expect it to be a sloppy striking battle.. i would have hit him +240 but the odds dropped too much before the eu bookies got odds

that dude is slow as a turtle with bum striking and still managed to land alot on Gilpin

Gordon has a decent chance at beating Hardy. I'm taking $20 on him

That fight was nearly 2 yrs ago gilpin has improved he was 24 then watch his last fight hands much better. Gilpin only guy to ko that guy too and hes been in there with glenn santiago sanchez and moret. Gilpins only been pro 3.5 yrs was a straight wrestler. Big improvements are made by these young bucks in two yrs. Jr is getting a wrestling / grappling lesson imo

if he can get the fight to the mat then i agree it might be over quick as Gilips have slick grappling and JR is a white belt.. i just have a feeling he wont be able to get takedowns on JR hwo looks stronger to me

FWIW Gilpin was using some of these fights to work on his stand-up. If he wanted to blast double this dude and tap him in the 1st, he could've done it no problem. Also, if Coughran only cuts 5lbs he will surely not have a strength advantage. He is ripped no doubt, but Gilpin is a big 145er, extremely broad shoulders, real strong kid. There are a ton of very good wrestlers in his camp, including a ton of 170's. Also lifelong friend and training partner of Alex Hernandez who just outgrappled the next GSP ;).

Greg Hardy is going to get wrestlefucked and lose. I have an inside source who is close with Boom.
