UFC 231 Holloway vs Ortega

The odds on Holloway are so unbelievable it makes you think theres got to be something wrong here, something I cant see. It reminds me of Jury-Mendes. Mendes was like -150 and I really couldnt understand why, thought I must be missing something because I was super confident he was goin to win. He had questions regarding his return but it was still Chad Mendes v Myles Jury. I only placed a small bet on that fight, I'm not making that mistake here.

Just put 250$ on Holloway at +110

I think it will be very competitive but Holloway will just be a little too much on the feet.

Unless, you know, he got threatened to be stripped
Well he did get threatened indirectly. Dana said Ortega would fight for a belt on UFC 231 regardless of the opponent was Max or someone else. Which is complete bullshit, if he got issues and they pressure him to take a fight too early that's real fucking dirty by the UFC

Elias game doesn't work well against good athletes or guys with substantial power (see Thiago fight). I get playing Elias dec at good odds, but personally am on Anders NSC pretty heavy around -130 and smaller on his ML.
100%. When the lines first came out I was tempted by Elias dec but after more tape and thinking about the fight, I dont think Elias is going to be able to dance around Anders for 3 rounds.

Close Canandian decision is based on pitter patter volume is Elias path. I actually did stab Anders Dec +244 as well. Theo is tough, Anders could very well hurt him, but may not put him away.

I admit, I think the Max health concerns are WAY overblown. I am not putting much weight into it when capping this fight. I am assuming both fighters are coming in at peak form. In which case, I price Max at close to a -200. His current value at +100 or higher is therefore absurd. I have listened to many of his interviews this week and hes the same old Max. People pointing to his slurring or using the wrong words or stuttering or whatever they think they glean from this fight week must not know how Max normally handles himself in interviews. On the other hand, I was VERY concerned by his interviews pre UFC 226.

However, I did just watch his prefight workout:

He looked slow, especially with his kicks. This was a little bit worrying, so I went back and watched his open workouts prior to one of his best ever performances at UFC 212 against Aldo:

He looks even slower and less engaged in the 212 pre-workout. Worries gone. I'm not going to read the tea-leaves hoping that a disabled or hindered Holloway shows up to take Ortega as a favorite. If you cap Ortega as a favorite regardless of circumstance because of his chin/power/grappling or whatever you see leading him to victory, good on you and happy bettings. If you are assuming you are betting agaisnt broken merchandise, you are going to be in for a big surprise because his interviews and open workout from this week do not give that theory any evidence.

WME are some shady fools. They stripped Colby to make a WW title fight between Twood and Till and are about to pass over him again to make interim for 233 (allegedly).

Yeah, and Dana said it because he "refused to defend his interim title". A fucking interim isn't there for you to defend, it's a guarantee that you get the next title shot to unify the belts. Such BS

I am backing Ortega and I agree with this 100 pct. If you're fading Holloway, just save your money because wagering like that in the long run will fuck you even if you win this bet. I can't really admit that my reasons for betting Ortega are any more or less absurd because I am operating from a place of being financially comfortable losing a wager and intuition on the way each fighter is approaching the fight and their skill sets. I also think Ortega might be UFC's next big "superstar" and that will require winning this fight. I will say this though on the analytical front: I think its a bad match up for Max

There are still some good posters on Sherdog, congrats for making me believe again.

He never really displayed impressive punching power vs anyone.

I feel Usman is going to be the real loser in all of this if the Twood v Colby fight gets booked in March and askren vs Lawler is for an interim title.. a week is a long time in MMA

If people want to bet Ortega his NSC line is good.

Also I think if Ortega wins it will be ITD, his r3, r4, and r5 props are priced very generously.

I think I am the only one in this forum on Max via TKO... LOL.

I could freeroll Theodorou (got him at +147) and Burns (got him at +125)... not confident at all but Im going to ride with it.

Tomorrow I will not be watching it live.

Yeah telegraphed uppercut after a counter elbow Vs a chin that's been to ko'd god knows how many times throughout Edgar's career. That's not impressive punching power.
Yeah I never understood the fascination with this uppercut. It was the elbow that did all the work.
