UFC Fight Night 147: Till vs. Masvidal

Thank you for your input. Reyes does have a better cardio for sure.

Can’t wait to fade Reyes but Volkan is not trustworthy enough for a bet.

Probably but we saw Reyes go past 1 round only once against a horrible OSP that somehow decided to fight orthodox most of the time (that’s how Latifi caught him, he can’t box from orthodox) and Reyes slowed down significantly. The OSP Volkan beat on short notice looked better. OSP might be done right now. He got finished by Latifi & almost finished by Tyson Pedro before Pedro went full retard. He is so slow in there. Ovince has always been inconsistent but that’s a new level currently. I’m already thinking about betting Krylov against him lol.

Anyway I really don’t get how you can trust Reyes so much at this price. A little underestimation of Volkan imo. We don’t know how Reyes chin looks like and Volkan has weird power. Reyes does leave openings for the straight right hand when he throws his left kicks (sometimes even repeatedly).

This is basically Volkan 1 vs Volkan 2. Both guys have couple of UFC fights (even a title fight) and they are still hard to figure out imo. Some fighters need 1-2 fights and you know exactly what their ceiling is. Volkan 1 is less athletic but beat/ faced better opposition. Best option might be to just watch the fight. I wouldn’t be shocked if Volkan comes back with a KO win.

Why fade? He's not some Johnny Walker hype train.

Reyes is still extremely green and reckless especially with his kicks. The openings are there and I‘m also confident that a good grappler will crush him just like DC crushed Volkan. He is definitely not the one to be the future champ in my opinion. I‘m questioning his fight IQ a little bit as well because he gave OSP time to recover when he had him hurt badly (similar thing with Leon Edwards btw when he fought Cowboy).

Johnny Walker is just as a hype train as Reyes is. Hype trains are not a bad thing and they can be justified. Both guys beat similar type of fighters (Khalil & Ledet> Kimball, Christensen. Cannonier at LHW was about the same level as Khalil & Ledet, Cirkunov = OSP).

Even though stripper Johnny is a question mark himself, he has more BJJ accolades, is more athletic and has more ways to win fights, oh and he is a way better striker than Reyes btw.

Why is everybody so confident in Heinisch? He has wild striking and is lacking head movement..ok, he can take down Breese.but Tom himself is a BJJ BB and good at scrambling from the bottom. Striking goes all the way to Tom

Haven't heard anything, but Duffy is used to having a reach advantage and guys trying to work to get inside on him. He seemed to struggle navigating Vick's length. Cardio looked good in Poirier and Madidi fights.
Yea it was surprising to me. He had a pretty good first rd and the he just seemed to crash.

He’s starting to get old by lightweight standards. Diakiese has a speed advantage and kicking advantage. A little rangier even though the reach is listed the same.

His brick iq in the hooker fight is concerning.

I don’t think Duffy can put the pace and pressure on that he will need to to keep diakiese on his back foot.

Duffy really doesn’t use his wrestling either. He would have an advantage on the ground if it goes there. Diakiese has pretty good get ups

I'm starting to warm up to Diakiese. Getting cracked and finished by Vick (bad ref stop aside) is not a good look. At close to 3:1 I think Diakiese is the right side versus 2019 Duffy.

They have done diakiese no favors on his last few fights. Hooker and then baby gastelum back to back.

He was actually winning the third round agaisnt hooker until he went agaisnt his corners advisement and went for a takedown into a tight hooker guillotine

Agreed. Almost certainly he's going to fight with his UFC career in mind. Hopefully desperate doesn't mean more stupid.

I'm in for 0.5u to start, probably will add more later but doubt the line really moves much. Will look for a certain prop line that involves Duffy being detached from consciousness as well.

Heinisch

Fled the country because of drug trade? Did time in rikers? For real brehs?

This guy is a wild man. Tried to pull mutante into his guillotine guard. That was pretty dumb

He somehow gets mutante into an armbar and doesn’t control his wrist. Does he know who mutante is?

Used a kimura from his half guard to get back to his feet.

Wildman

I kinda like the guy

Seeing more than a few Leon picks, but without any info or breakdown so I had a look at some tape. I have a couple concerns:

-He beat the hell out of Cerrone, who was 'sick in bed all day, never felt like that before' on fight day and 'told my corner I don't feel up to [fighting]'. Not verbatim but close enough. Takes a lot of sheen off that win but still a good result against a good fighter. But Cerrone is an absolutely known entity at this point.

-He rocked Sobotta straight away but followed him down (WHY do fighters do that? Just let the guy up...must be pure instinct cause so many fighters do it...) and was vulnerable to a submission immediately. Calmly muscled his way out though. But not a fan of the IQ in that sequence. However, if it wasn't IQ-related then Leon was eager to out-fight Sobotta at his own game. Which he in fact did, 4:59 of the 3rd sorry FGTD bettors, but for long sequences Leon was only stalling, wasting time, or (briefly) surviving on the ground. Round 1 of Cowboy-Gunnar will give Leon an excuse to follow Nelson into his guard if the opportunity arises.

-Leon seems to have a great chin. Anyone see him get rocked or knocked down before?
-Carries power in his left. Has an 8 second KO. Bloodied Cerrone. Knocked down Sobotta.
-Lacks killer instinct and this points to low IQ again.
-Has good TDD and great-to-excellent get-ups. Cerrone landed in his guard and Leon popped up fast. Sobotta went for a couple 3rd round TDs and Leon sprawled fast on the first one, was taken down on the second but got up immediately and eventually broke away.
-His sub defense was good against Sobotta but Gunnar is a level, or two, above him I think.

I'm sure Gunnar will study the Sobotta fight second by second and if Leon is as willing to go to the ground with him as he was with Peter there's a pretty good chance he gets choked out. Ponz is a brawler, Leon is a sniper. I'm not sure Leon can sleep Gunnar like Ponz did, but it was a short left that put him totally out. Nelson took some big shots from Cowboy and seemed ok, although the early elbows might've wobbled him.

edit for TLDR:
Gunnar is quite live, imo.
Ponz isnt a brawler, he has one of the best jabs in the division.

after watching some tape i can say reyes isn't as good as i remembered. still think he beats volkan tho.

Till overextends when he throws his left every damn time and has this karate punching style that is no good but he's so big and powerful that he can get away with it most of the time. masvidal is good but too defensive/ doesn't like to take much risks when he rates his opponent highly and is comfortable cruising to a close decision. he´ll definitely respect till and i think he´ll have trouble closing the distance and finding combinations, like he did with wb. till by decision is the right pick. till's ridicolously low output can make this contest much closer, but he would still get the hometown nod.
