not quite what i'm sayin.
i'm sayin the title of 'king' doesn't really mean anything because it looks/sounds stupid if the winner doesn't embrace the outlandish gaudiness of it (but when they do it is entertaining -booker, macho, mabel, even kurt angle w/ his crown and scepter).

what matters is that they've won a tournament, meaning that that they've won a series of matches that gave the people a chance to watch them work (for a reason) and give a damn about who they are and what they are trying to achieve (title shot).

i think @Frank23 's issue w/ your joe/cesaro comment is that you were saying it should be the finals.
its a solid match for sure but that winner then becomes a (potential) champion for either brand,
a role (cesaro) I'm sure @Frank23 does not agree with.

What does the tournament winner get? A crown and a scepter. It does nothing to promote or enhance a talent as history has clearly shown us. They are in no way guaranteed to be a brand champion, or even feature. Regal won it au 42 so Frank's point is still moot. At least the G1 and Best of the Super Juniors gets a title shot.

Also Joe is the best heel in the company at the moment so him winning would actual cement that even further. But as I said it's a nothing tournament where every thing is made up and the points don't matter.

I went back and watched the night after KoTR 1996. Austin was protected in a DQ to Taker when Goldust’s interfered and he did get a main event 20 minute match with one of the biggest stars in the company. He did get a jobber entrance though to very little reaction. I thought there were 10,000 Austin 3:16 signs the next night and they sold 20,000 T-shirts?!?!

Pillman also had a promo before that match where he asked Vince where his goddamn money was. #MyBusiness

Historically, they made it a very big deal. I know they had one a year or two ago that was all on the Network and meant nothing, but hopefully that's not what they're going to do this year. Going back to the years of Bret, Owen, Austin, Trips, etc. It was a big deal. When Brock won he got an automatic title shot at SummerSlam. Etc. It seems like they're treating this seriously, at least now. Hopefully they keep that up. I'd be happy if they announce that the winner gets a title shot either at a later date or a specific date. At Rumble would be cool because that's a big show. But it would also work to say they get a shot at the December PPV, to have some kind of story going into what is usually a throwaway.

The Raw side of the bracket seems kind of dumb to me. They should have switched two of the matches so the Joe/Cesaro winner wouldn't face McIntyre/Ricochet until the semis, imo. The SD side makes sense. I hope KO wins, but I'm a KO mark. Andrade would be good too. He could do some sort of Aztec emperor thing and Zelena could dress super slutty.
