Going to have to step my future game up. Pretty happy with a 4th place showing in my first Shoop comp though. Hella fun.

How do you layer in behind the text so easily? Or similarly behind the front hand? You're not manually cutting those frame by frame are you?

Would like to give a huge shoutout to @ib313 for the help during this contest. Brother saved me so much time. He was like Superman crossed with Artem to me.

Also would like to thank the Council members. Without your help things would be so screwed up. You guys are invaluable. You go out of your way, basically unrecognized for the work you do. You gents are always there. Mahalo.

Also would like to thank others that gave me words of encouragement throughout the thread and especially via PM. It really keeps my spirits up and gives me energy.

How do you layer in behind the text so easily? Or similarly behind the front hand? You're not manually cutting those frame by frame are you?

To do that in Photoshop you would use the Magic Wand tool and click on a letter making sure "Conitiguous" is deselected at the top. This will select all the orange on the whole image instead of just that letter. If "Conitiguous" was turned on, it would only select that letter. You could do it that way and select all the letters one at a time (while holding Shift), but it was easier to do it w/o "Conitiguous".

Now that u have all the letters selected, you can refine your mask using Select and Mask or Refine Edge, or however else you wish. Hell you could eyeball it too and refine it with a lasso if needed. After you have refined your selection (you may not have to do that. I didnt.) you could just copy/paste the letters onto the top layer or get them to the top however you wish.

I used AE, so I just saved the letters as a .png and plopped them on top and called it a day. You could also get the cage wires to go over his face but I didnt fee like it. That would be a little more tricky to do and would have taken like 10-15 minutes but I just wanted to make that gif really fast.

The front hand is masked over his face. There was like 11 frames that needed masking. I did what I call a "Garbage Mask" which is basically masking it like junk and hoping no one notices. This is After Effects and you can see the "pen tool" is used to make the mask. As you can see it really is total garbage. I didnt even mask the fingers. I used a good "feather" to blend it in.

Thank you my brother and thanks for all the help along the way you are a great teacher and always up for helping people out, you are a true Sherdog treasure and don't get enough praise for all the work you put into the shoop scene here.

Your first round shoop is one of the very best we have ever seen and went without getting the recognition it deserved, it was by far the best technically and it was hilarious too, shame on you Sherdog.

Thanks brother. Stir Crazy is one of my absolute favorite movies ever too. I have always wanted to shoop the scene where they are first being taken to their cell it's absolutely gold. Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder are amazing together.
