Even though he only has 1 title defense, he has pretty much already cleared out the division. He has wins against 5 of the top 10 ranked welterweights (Woodley, Colby, Leon, Maia, RDA). Other guys in the top 10 won’t ever challenge for the title (Diaz, Chiesa,Burns).

The guy is the biggest, strongest fighter in the division, endless cardio, elite wrestling/pressure, his striking is pretty basic but serviceable.

Unless Masvidal somehow starches him early, he’s likely going to get wrestlefucked for 5 rounds.

By knockout 7

I’m definitely in the same boat as you, I think he’ll be champ for a long time, especially if Colby doesn’t challenge for a rematch. His win against woodley was extremely dominant, and most of his wins up to his title shot were too.

Wonderboy would be pretty much the only one left then

He looked pretty far from unbeatable vs Colby. Not sure where this is coming from.

I had money on Usman over Covington.

And I was nervous going into that 5th round, because I had it 3-1 Colby.

And I also think the stoppage was bs. Vintage Marc Goddard.

A rematch could easily go Colby's way. That fight was close.

I still get pissed to this day when in his fight with Demain Maia the ref pulled Maia off of Usman’s back with a hook in.

Goddamn that shit gets me heated just thinking about it.

Be interesting to watch him fight Burns as Burns is another very high level bjj guy.

He looks very difficult to dethrone. Leon Edwards has the best chance in my opinion, simply based on cardio and all-round game. Edwards beats this version of Woodley and also gives Covington a tough fight. I don't see anyone right now beating Usman though, no. He's the real deal.

I think Usman is the best WW since GSP with a skillset similarly difficult to beat. Like with GSP the best way to beat him is via power punches standing up. If those don't land Usman likely wins a decision.

There's a shortage of good contenders for him. Wonderboy is a tricky fight for him and really everyone.

I was rooting for Colby and I didn't have it 3-1. The stoppage was B.S. though. I wanted to see if Colby could at least finish out the fight. I don't know why you would think a rematch would go Colby's way. Nothing in that fight said that to me. Usman's striking showed big improvement. If anything Usman might pick him apart more on the feet. I loved that fight besides the stoppage.

I disagree. First, his first title defense was heading towards a split decision; one official scorecard that showed Usman down three rounds to one. Another judge had Usman up 3-1, and the third had the fight knotted at two rounds apiece. So, Covington is a legit threat to his title.

Jorge Masvidal's striking could be a problem for Usman and a rematch with Leon Edwards would be a very close fight, the first was 29 - 28 with Edwards winning the first round in a three round fight. Edwards was only 23 when they fought.

Stephen Thompson and Gilbert Burns would also be tough match-ups for Usman. I doubt Usman is the champ 12 months from now.
