I think it depends if the person is stubborn with their underhook and holds on. There are a lot of counters if someone holds on from top that way. This is the one I prefer and it's similar to what you posted:




With you video, my guess is if the person doesnt over commit on the underhook, they could just move to north south because you no longer are clamping on the hip. The ghost escape makes it harder for them to do that cause you have a clamped down over hook as you are escaping.

The other thing is with either of these, when you stop monitoring the hip and dig your arm under them, you are vulnerable to a nearside armbar.


I'd say to experiment with both and see the pros and cons for your self though. I think the one you posted cause require more energy though than the ghost. Something to consider is with your top side control game, you don't need to be so deep with that underhook. You can maintain an underhook so long as you dont pass their elbow line and you stay low so they cant swim their arm through. Getting comfortable with that is huge imo because if you know how to maintain control without being to tight, you will be able to base easier with your hand throughout without losing the underhook or getting swept. When some just gable grips and squeezes, I think that is unnecessary. I good cross face with the right shoulder pressure and staying off your knees will work better.
