If the UFC was a Japanese company operating in Japan...

As for the original question I think you could be right if you'd made the argument about Brazil or Russia, but definitely not Japan.

Americans are not inherently superior, no matter where they fight or what the promotion is.

It's all about:
1)hard work,
2)dedication/strategy
and also
3)little help from genetics(brain+body) in certain situations/fights.

When I read this I can only imagine this gay yelling "hard work, dedication"

... Would the roster be dominated by Americans, as it's now?

A friend of mine thinks the reason Americans are dominating the roster is because they are the best in MMA, best gyms, best trainers, etc...

But is it not because the UFC is an American company that found it's popularity in the US?

If the UFC was, say, a Japanese company with the same level of it's current popularity, then I bet the majority of fighters would be Japanese, and Americans would be a minority

TL;DR: American dominance in MMA is due to UFC's popularity as entertainment, not that Americans are inherently superior fighters/have the best infastructure

You don't have friends

Are there any American champions right now? I wouldn't say UFC/MMA is dominated by Americans.
There are only two american champions, stipe and usman. Hardly dominated by americans although lw might have an american soon if oliveira fails to beat either poirier, gaethje or chandler

Yeah it was called Pride, and it had majority Japanese fighters/cans. Because of that pride gave us glorious fights of Wanderlei Silva massacring Japanese professional wrestlers

That's Yuki Kondo in that gif. Hardly a can.

what if scenarios to this extent bothered me.

If for some reason japanese mma popularity made a comeback and the mob made a comeback that would be sorta cool.

if japan won world war two would mma exist today except they would have certain fights to the death.

as much as i love japanese mma maybe the time has passed

almost all bjj gyms in japan train only in gi

America is huge with a huge population and mma is pretty popular there. You should expect countries with huge population to have that many talented people.

Look at the Olympics it's normally the large (and rich) countires that dominate - Aus, USA, Russia, CHN

Large population =bigger talent pool

I'm sure China would have many amazing fighters if mma was as popular

Usman doesn't want to be a Yank anymore. He apparently wanted it when he was in OPTC, but no more. Now he's Nigerian

Another issue here is immigration. Japan has notoriously strict immigration laws so it's hard to get high level athlethes in other arts into the country to train the fighters.

Since America is a melting pot of cultures and pretty immigrant friendly, It's a lot easier to get a high level Brazilian BJJ instructor to consider living here then it would be in Japan. This is the impression I get for why Chinese MMA isn't all that good.

Yes, they have a history of martial arts and a large number of people but the actual number of high level instructors they have is pretty low.

If you look at the numbers, the United States has the highest number of Brazilians living here then any country other then Brazil. The same is true of Russians which gives us a unique access to high level Sambo, Freestyle Wreslters and Jiu Jitsu players that other countries don't have.

Obviously this isn't a blanket statement and there's always going to be mavericks and outliers who are willing to live in places like China but China just isn't open enough as a culture to have a large number of high-level Muay Thai fighters suddenly immigrate to the country.
