UFC 258 PBP/Discussion

Gilbert was already slowing down in Round 2 after doing well in Round 1. He was getting dropped by jabs once he slowed down (2-3 times before he got finished).

I liked my bet on Burns +236 originally, but after seeing that his cardio looked worse than usual, I don't know what to say.

Oh well.

What was Usman live after rd1 out of curiosity?

Had too much riding on the fight to even check my phone.

Usman really is that good. I actually would like to see Usman vs Izzy at 185. I think the threat of Usman's wrestling makes that fight super interesting.

usman is a great fighter, but what a doofus, i can't listen to this guy for 1 second.

Usman is a rock, a type of strength one shouldn't bet against while in prime.. like one other

he looked a little chinny i think, after Khabib i saw him as the safest fighter to bet on regadless of opponent, now I will reconsider.

Either the moment was too big for Burns or him and his team are morons. How hard is it to keep your hands up? Also has an extremely glassy chin. Imagine getting rocked numerous times by an Usman jab lol.

he went all out in the first round while usman stayed composed and dint expend a lot of energy, he almost succeeded props to burns imo.

Yeah I'm going to have to rewatch that. Maybe it was just that powerful of an overhand...but I was incredibly surprised it hurt him, as he's ate shots like that before.

I think he was fine though, knocked off balance, never rocked.. will have to rewatch

Rogan and Cormier will scream that everyone is hurt, constantly, annoyingly

I figured Usman would do more clinching, and try to land on him more in later rounds.

I did not expect a fight that fast paced.

Burns did a good job of not letting Usman back him up, but his jab really made the difference in the fight.

That was fun while it lasted. Burns did good countering the jab in the 1st but the intensity of the fight got to him imo, he visibly slowed down in the second and usman was able to establish the jab and time it to a t to intercept gil when he started telegraphing the kicks. Usman's boxing has improved quite a bit (jab is even sharper) but his conditioning is still his main strenght. Man just doesn't slow down and keeps a high pace when other guys can't. I think he'll reign for quite some time.

Pd. Burns clearly got the best of him in training. Usman was way too emotional in the lead up and post fight. More power to the guy. Sparring is a different story when you compare it to a legit fight. Apart from the obvious differences, the intensity is way higher. Usman thrives. He didn't wanna go to the ground either, which makes sense since burns said he would sub him anywhere. Maybe that was gilberts forte.

Imagine the moment being too big for you and only having five minutes of gas in a title fight three of which you spent on your back doing bicycles lol.
