My big stupid hype trains thread.

I figured I'd try and do rankings. These are the first ones so they're very rough. No fighters signed to UFC or Bellator and no fighters who've ever been signed to the UFC. I cut the age limit off at 33, I did think about going younger but the heavier classes tend to be older.

Bear in mind this isn't how I think people would do head to head, it's a combination of how good they are and how good I think they'll get.

I thought Shamil Musaev was a WW. Also, im surprised Abus Magomedov didnt make your list at MW.

This is a badass list, btw. I think you should consider applying to become a contributor to an MMA outlet. Most of the contribuitors to MMA outlets are good writers but have shitty knowledge of the sport.

**EDIT** Fabio Cherant has signed to the UFC, he is fighting Menifield on a week notice this Saturday.

Shamil fought his last fight at WW, but that was his first fight at the weight, I figured I'd wait to see where his next fight is booked before moving him.

Abus could be a contender for the bottom end of the list but I'm happy with the MW list.

I dunno about being a contributor, I doubt it pays very much tbh.

And yeah I saw Cherant signed as I was finishing up the list. Guess there's a spot open for next week at LHW.

Shocking that you didn't put Schulte #1. You kept saying that he's the best LW outside the UFC/Bellator

I think at the moment he is, but Lee is a lot younger. It's not a ranking of who I think is the best at the moment, I'm taking potential into account too.

Oops forgot about Gogoladze at WW, edited him in and apologies to Mike Malott.

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 22
Promotion - EFC
Record : 4-0

Another one to add to the seemingly endless list of good Russian Bantamweight fighters. Looked very impressive in winning the EFC belt in only his 4th pro fight, knocking out former IMMAF ammy champ Sharapudin Magomedov in a highly impressive display.

This dude hasn't fought in 4 years, but it didn't look like it as he absolutely physically dominated his opponent before easily choking him. Ring rust not a factor for this guy.

I was taking a closer look at your list and its interesting how much more talent rich are the lower weight classes. BW, FW, and LW are rich with killers, and I'm assuming there are at least 5 more interesting prospects coming out of those weight classes. The other thing that I found interesting is that WW seems to be stalling a bit, at least IMO, there are less interesting fighters at WW than I expected. Short of Soldic, Gogoladze, Garry and maybe Cooper and Magomedkerimov the rest are not the most exciting fighters out there, IMO. Not saying they are not very good, just that they are not very exciting. On the other hand, I was surprised to see that MW is more plentiful that I thought. I actually like the MW talent pool more than the WW talent pool, it feels like there are more exciting fighters, some of which are really young. BTW, is Brett Martin the guy who was saying that the UFC doesnt want to sign him because he is too fat?

I realised I forgot a couple of people at WW, I should have had Abdoulragimov and Abbasov on there too, so it's maybe a little worse than it should be.

Yeah that's the same Martin, tbh he's only on there because HW is a shit show until I see someone with more potential.

Yeah that's the same Martin, tbh he's only on there because HW is a shit show until I see someone with more potential.
So, what do you think about WW compared to the lower and upper weight classes? It seems to me that WW is exactly where the level of talent splits between the lower weight classes and upper weight classes. In the lower weight classes you see a deeper talent pool whereas in the upper weight classes the talent pool is more shallow and fighters are older.

I think it's a bit of an anomaly or there's some people I'm missing that's all. WW has historically been a very strong division.

I think the issue with HW and LHW is just that most in shape people aren't naturally that size, so there's just less of a talent pool there.

Yes, MW suffers a but from the same issue as LHW and HW. I was looking at the prospects from the UFC and Bellator and there arent as many prospects at WW as I thought there were. So, it makes sense that there arent many fighters outside the big promotions, either. It is very strange because, like you mentioned, WW is a historically strong division.

I think 170 should be split into 165 and 175, it sounds counter intuitive, considering I just said there arent many prospects at WW, but many big 155 pounders would rather fight at 165, particularly towards the latter stage of their careers. 175 would be for the big 170 pounders and small 185 pounders who would rather make the cut to 175 than fight at a size disadvantage at 185.

Vinicius De Oliveira

Country - Brazil
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 25
Promotion - UAE Warriors
Record : 16-2

Lockdog is a fun fighter to watch, this dude is always throwing something at you and there's very little chance to rest against him. Maybe a little recklessly aggressive sometimes, but it makes for some fun fights as he comes forward taunting and throwing bombs. Really beat up and stopped a well traveled fighter in Xavier Alaoui (who's been to a split with Josh Hill before). I think a big organisation should pick him up purely for the entertainment factor.

I've found this.

Looks to have talent. I've trained with the #1 ranked UK ammy FW for years though so I'm biased when it comes to guys in the ammys around that weight class though.

There is a couple more of his fights and a few amateur boxing bouts on youtube, if you wanna I can post here links.
About Gogoladze, Bloodyelbow lists him as a UFC fighter and I've found that Georgian journalist (who reported signing of Topuria, for example) posted on Twitter back in February, I think that he was signed (or that Gogoladze told him so, can't remember).

It'd be great if he has signed, I'm massively high on that guy.

Francesco Nuzzi

Country - Italy
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 24
Promotion - BRAVE
Record : 9-1

Nuzzi had a very impressive, very close fight with fellow prospect Bernardo Sopai which honestly wouldn't have looked out of place on a UFC card. I was particularly impressed with his countering which he used to hit Sopai with effectively every time he got a bit carried away. Also showed good anti-wrestling, solid guard off his back and even decent offensive wrestling and top control later in the fight.

For a 20 year old, All Stars product Sopai was also extremely impressive. No can crushing for him as he fights other top prospects already. Showed good stand up, cardio, wrestling and came extremely close to winning a fight which honestly could have gone either way.

Record : 5-0

Uber prospect Mokaev took a step up in competition against fellow former IMMAF world champion in the more experienced Abdul Hussein and handled it pretty well. I'd like to see him try and do more damage on the ground but his positional scrambling between positions is just incredible. He can be a little too aggressive with his grappling at times and go for things when he shouldn't and end up in bad positions, but he has the skill to get out of them and turn them into good positions again. A guy with this style of top grappling who can also work really well off his back is going to be trouble.

Ikram would still be unbeaten if he hadn't had the misfortune to run into another up and coming BRAVE prospect by the name of Khamzat Chimaev a couple of years ago. This guy is a combat sambo world champion and is an animal in there, decent stand up punctuated by an absolutely terrifying top game where he just floats into positions and beats guys to a pulp until they beg him to submit them pretty much. Scary dude.

Benoit Saint Denis

Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 25
Promotion - BRAVE
Record : 7-0

I'm not really sure whether this guy will end up being a WW or a LW as he competes in the Super Light Weight division that BRAVE has. Anyway he had a step up in competition to deal with in former champion Luan Santiago and he dealt with him pretty easily, managing well enough against an unorthadox guy on the feet before realising that he could absolutely dominate him on the ground and going that route instead and getting the sub.

BRAVE's prospect scouting recently has been really impressive.

Man, Omarov comfortably defeated Bibert. Bibert had all the hype behind him and Omarov slammed the shit out of him and comfortably beat him.

Omarov has insane potential, with what he just did to Tumenov and everybody else he definitely needs to be added
