In hockey it could be lights out at any given time

ok hes racing back to prevent an empty net goal. It wasn’t an unnecessary distant traveled, he literally had to travel that distance, and he glides into a body check to separate the player from the puck. At the point of contact he hits him shoulder to chest, doesn’t leave his feet and his elbows were down. Technically a clean hit, but he will still get a suspension.
- I didn't say anything about the distance traveled, not sure what you mean?
- you can pause the video and see a moment where both Schiefele's skates are completely off the ice, it also looks like his arm or shoulder makes contact with Evans's head
- goal has already scored before he makes contact, if he's trying to stop the goal he should be diving with his stick extended.
- I'm not convinced he did this out of malice or poor sportsmanship, still not really a clean hit though. It's always dangerous when a player going full speed collides with an opponent who doesn't see him coming (kind of like a defenseless receiver in American football).
- agreed that he will be suspended

Looks to me that hit was borderline legal/illegal.
It is a bang bang play, what is the defender suppose to do let him score?

Definitely brutal hit but playoffs can get tough and to me it looks like he was trying to make a play.

He got called for charging on the play that’s why I mentioned the distance.

As for leaving your skates it matters if you do it before throwing the hit because it will help generate more power. He glides in from the top of the circle and connects clean to the chest, his skates don’t leave the ice till way after the point of contact.

If Schiefele was a second quicker he would have saved the goal, he wouldn’t have needed to dive.

I still think it’s legal, good discussion though. Cheers for keeping it respectful.

Tough hit, hopefully he's alright. I don't even know what to expect in terms of punishment anymore. Hockey has changed so drastically.

"you can pause the video and see a moment where both Schiefele's skates are completely off the ice"

This is an uninformed opinion you are presenting here, other uniformed folks bring shit up like this, "he left his feet" all the time and it's annoying. The rule says "jumps into" , nothing about skates/feet leaving the ice. This hit is a perfect example of how people get off base about it, his feet did not leave the ice until contact was made, ergo he did not jump.

After further review of the play..... Good Hit!

Probably will still get suspended though due to some of the other factors and Parros and the whole department sucking at reading comprehension and playing politics, great year for that already.

Feet are firmly on the ice at the point of impact and only come up after.

Its not a clean hit as it is charging and was unnecessary to the play. It could have been if he was slightly faster, but in this case it was uncalled for and caused injury therefore suspension likely.

This applies to a lot of sports, even ones that arent outwardly violent.

But yeah hockey is cool, its just a shame the fighting has been slowly pushed out of the NHL over the last decade.

We live in a soft cancel culture society now so nothing would surprise me. Will probably be illegal to be attractive soon and those of us blessed with the looks of a God will be forced to live underground in squaller.

Indeed. I rebember in the 90s Stevens damn near decapitating Lindros was considered a good clean hit

wasnt lindros kinda asking for it ? Thats why it was considered clean I would think.

A big hit like that is worse than any hockey fight ever is
