Hmm. Got me tossing up between Dark City and Stalker for my third (so I left it at 2).
My impression of "beautiful cinema" is strongly influenced by the broader aesthetic, conceptual content and my watching experience.
I saw Dark City in a nearly empty cinema in the wee hours of the morning when it was released (and without having read anything about it), after which I spent about an hour walking home along the river.
Whereas I saw Stalker on a PC (somewhat subpar download) in the early 2000s, long after I'd read Roadside Picnic, and also after reading a bunch of references to the film in various SciFi discussions.
So definitely Dark City was a more impactful experience.
I really like cold-war scifi though, and the novelty factor of scifi which is distinct from the trends in Western Scifi of the time (despite some very recognisable '70s elements) is also pretty appealing. I thought Stalker / Roadside Picnic was better Scifi basically.
Seeing the 2001 release as (2001) also had me looking to see if there was some sort of directors cut or release I'd missed at the time.
