Public Enemy vs NWA

Was jus drivin listening to a lil Wu yesterday. Well Wu and Lamb of God... I jus let my randoms pick and see where it takes me.
Lol my playlists consist of similar tastes, although they're getting more mellow as I age. I haven't actually listened to a ton of music since I've been out, but before I left I'd been listening to Dinosaur Jr, Earl Sweatshirt, Skinny Puppy, Les Légions Noires, and Boy Harsher a lot. I was once a snobby teenager who would listen to nothing but 80's punk rock (and Wu-Tang Clan), but I've come a long way since then, I guess.

Pretty good comparison, they got a lot more in common than you might think at first glance
Two groups of angry black men making aggressive music that was very much a reflection of the world they grew up in and scaring the bejeezus outta whitey in the process
NWA was obviously the forefathers of West Coast gangsta rap while Public Enemy influenced a lot of the militant and conscious rap that followed, groups like X-Clan and rappers like Paris, Askari-X and even Common
They both had huge hits in the late 80's but NWA is definitely more well known these days because of the mainstream success of Ice Cube and Dr Dre
The groups had so much in common that when Ice Cube left NWA, he immediately flew to New York and hooked up with P.E.'s production team, The Bomb Squad to produce his classic first solo album, Amerikkkaz Most Wanted
I think it just comes down to personal preference, Im always gonna ride with West Coast Best Coast so its NWA for me but Public Enemy is one of the few East Coast Least Coast groups that I am a fan of

Hey bud. You well? Good to see you. I didn't practice my rhymes while I was gone. But eventually I will get back to it.
I'm doin' alright. Glad to see you're out. Other than the usual work/life stuff, I bought a new guitar recently. Just been jamming on that.

Are you just starting out, or was it just an upgrade or something? Let's get a vid of your shred.

I've been playing awhile, but gave up the last few years.

Here's some that I recorded the other week:

Recorded this the other day:

I forgot, you've had music in your blood for your entire life, right? Your dad has a job in the industry or something? Am I wrong here? It was a long time ago now, but it seems like I remember something like that.

I started listening to rap around the time when it was first popular... the mid 80s. And, I continued until the very early 90s. I loved both NWA and Public Enemy, so it's a tough call. Maybe, ever so slightly NWA.

I completely stopped listening to rap in the early 90s though. I think most of it sucks compared to when I listened.

Yeah, my dad was a drummer for a punk band in the late 60s/early 70s that lived with MC5 and the Stooges. Been in the scene forever.

Hmm.. both are great but NWA takes this imo

Good stuff. I really enjoyed the first song (although I liked all three). @2:56 was my favorite part.

I bet your dad has stories...

NWA had a way bigger social impact and they had Dre and Cube so they win by default. There is a reason people say Dre is the best producer in hip hop. That being said I really dont care for either, too 80s rap sounding for my taste.

A house full of commies, hippies, punks and Iggy Pop forced on a "macro-biotic" diet? Oh yeah.

Although I liked to listen more to NWA,
I think it's sad Hip Hop took a gangster turn.

What did you get?
Epiphone Les Paul Special II
