Social Housing is a human right?

It's not just housing, it's the cost of maintaining and operation of the housing. Not to mention that these people need a tremendous amount of hand holding and access to other resources which means they will need to be housed in areas in which will be near actual property owners and thus lowering their value. Personally I just accept that the vast majority of homeless are just defective and will never contribute more than they cost. They don't provide a significant ROI

Then again, if the government wants to offload public land to developers to build low incomes homes, then that could work... But again, these people need a large network of hand holders which means they will always be placed in city scapes and not just be build up in skme ouccipied land in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe a solution can be given to the capable homeless who don't need all the resources the "baby bird" segment of the homeless would need

So that’s who you want to give houses to?

Or literal bums under the bridge who don’t do shit for themselves. Because you’ve mentioned both in this thread.

80% of the country living paycheck to paycheck isn't just bad with saving. 60% can't afford $1000 emergency isn't just bad with money.

More than half the country is a couple of paychecks away from being on the street. This isn't about a lack of effort.

Which is which?

Obviously home ownership isn't a right. There are homeless shelters for people to stay in temporarily, but of course you don't have the right to force people to buy or build you a house for free.

Why would you compare the minimum of one thing to the median of another?

Mortgage payments for the median house price are $15k/year, and median household income is like $60k. If you don't earn the median income, why would you expect to buy the same house as people who do?
I'm not saying it to mean someone who is earning minimum wage should be able to purchase a 300k house.
More like the last time we changed minimum wage to 7.25, houses were under 200, and now they are easy over 300

People working their ass off with a slim savings are not the same thing as bums under a bridge.

Only one of the two is worth helping.

Getting a little off topic, but the paycheck to paycheck people would benefit tremendously from education in personal finances and time/resource management. That’s a charitable organization I could really get behind. Fuck giving people free shit, that’s a trap.
Teach them how to be a better version of themself, and their aggregate quality of life will soar. People feel fulfilled when they do things for themselves, and they ultimately resent handouts.

Let me take a look at the books of some of the paycheck-paycheck folks, and watch what they do for a week or two... there’s always improvements to be made to collectively position them for upgrades in life.
It’s hard to see the path when you’re stressed to the limits, and that’s where free education and counseling could be a big help.

Which is which?

Everyone who would have been committed to a mental hospital 30+ years ago is now roaming the streets and sleeping under a bridge. The system has failed them.

This. About half the homeless need to be in a sanitarium though. They are crazy. Which brings us to Health care is a human right too.

In California the homeless will soon have tiny houses built for them right next to the beach with an ocean view, free food, and free drugs.
if they have tiny houses then they arent homeless any more

So the government of the richest country to ever exist means simply watching people (and children) live under bridges and in the woods because they aren't worth helping. Better get those bootstraps.

40% of the country doesn't have $1000. This isn't an issue of "let me look at their books".

That’s awesome. Just remember that’s a carefully selected community of people not open to the general public. The members have got to collectively want you, and you need to be voted in. No freeloaders.
Yep, but it's also a major part of how the modern nation of Israel was established. People from anywhere in the world could go and randomly join one of the Kibbutz. That includes non-Jews. They do things different these days.

Why stop at housing being a right? Shouldn’t everyone have a right to a Ferrari, Beach House, Yacht and private Jet like Lebron, Will Smith and Tom Cruise?

It’s hard to give people something they don’t want.. there will always be homeless people.

So if it's a right the only way to realy make it work is for the government to own all homes/apartments and you are issued one.

No landlord wants to rent to people that are going to tear their stuff to hell so the lose money on it.

No one wants to own a home next to section 8 rental house as it destroys your homes value.

Sure help the working poor that are doing the best they can but some homeless the best you can do is make stuff available if they follow the rules . If not then they are a on their own.

You're right, man.

In the richest country to ever exist ever, there should be people sleeping under bridges. There should be children sleeping in the woods cause they are too old to go with their mothers to the shelter.

We need to put bootstraps under bridges.

If you care so much about people sleeping under bridges, why don't you go find yourself a person under a bridge and completely change their life with your own money? Prove that you care as much as you pretend to on here.

No, housing is not a human right. There are already programs for the poor that assist them such as Section 8 and a few others. If you're not considered poor then you need to work and contribute taxes to pay for all the welfare benefits.

For those that do believe housing is a human right. Who decides who gets to live where? What about in areas with good jobs and economy but no buildable land? How do you plan on removing market competitiveness? Just a reminder for those of you that are pro government intervention in markets, look at what is going to happen to people once this eviction moratorium is finally over.

Which then leads to food is a human right and so on and so on. Eventually there will be no need to work since everything is a right and society will collapse.
