It’s classic denial. What’s more, on one hand we are told that systemic racism explains antisocial behaviors (a complex topic in its own right) but now, when we are seeing clear systemic coercion and medical paternalism driving hesitancy, these same “allies” completely ignore and diminish the plights if these same people.... sickening when you think about it.
We were also explicitly told last year that systemic racism is a bigger issue than covid-19. That was the reasoning given for the political and medical establishment's support of the massive protests last year when you weren't even allowed to play catch in the park in some jurisdictions. Yet now we see a government effectively excluding a large swath of "POCs" from public life and using the virus as the reason? How does this make sense? After all we're constantly told that when it comes to racism, impact is what matters as opposed to intent. Otherwise there would be no need to focus on microaggressions or implicit bias. But they're not worried about the impact of this policy on unvaccinated BIPOC bodies of colour?
We're told to follow the science and the way to do that is to trust the experts. But the experts are constantly flip-flopping and contradicting themselves. I just don't understand how people can still have so much faith in these institutions.
