Depends where you are. Sydney and Melbourne dropped the ball with their quarantine and case tracking (of course with larger populations it was a tougher job), so they've had extensive lockdowns for a ridiculous amount of time now. Although they've given up on covid-zero and are opening up again now. They'll probably open their borders to each other soon.
The rest of the country is fine and has handled the pandemic better than most. My state (SA) has barely had any lockdowns aside from closing the borders to states with community infection (2 weeks of "stay at home" I believe for the entire pandemic), and the death toll here is 4. Of course we're not keen on abandoning covid-zero and opening up to Sydney and Melbourne as a result of that success. We've also seen what happened just recently when Singapore tried opening up (and they are way ahead of us in terms of vaccinations), so I expect it'll be slower here and they'll wait for a total vaccination rate over 80%.
Is Australia "lost" like I read so many opine on these threads?
For the record all the Australian friends I mentioned are currently in Sydney and they are just getting on with things until vaccines are all rolled out and restrictions begin to lift.
