Media Paulo Costa demands 500k to fight Robert Whittaker

costa should have renegotiated his contract after he beat Romero. His management failed him. Also, you’re telling me Costa signed a 9 fight ufc contract? That makes no sense.

That's what he says in the interview. He's on the same contract from 2017.

And management did fail him. That's why he fired him and now his girlfriend his manager

Can Costa prove he draws in the viewers to get champ level pay? Or in any other way makes the UFC that much more many than the next guy in the UFC?

He's not asking for 500k. They guy misquoted him.

Just watched the interview that isn’t what he said.

He said that the UFC offered a multi-fight contract where the total fights all together equaled 500k so about 100k a fight

He would fight for that price but not for that length of fights

This actually makes much more sense

Costa is right though

Ah thanks for clarifying that. That does sound more believable, TBH.

Did he say how many fights he would be willing to take that amount for? 4 or maybe 3?

usually the ufc signs people to 6-8 fight contracts, he must have owed them an extra fight due to some contractual issue.

It’s sound like he’s trying to fight out his contract. He’s thinking about going into boxing. So he doesn’t want any more fights just the pay bump

Oh fuck, DONT NEGOTIATE PUBLICLY ON TWITTER WITH DANA!!!

The same fans who complain about fighter pay are the ones who will call Paulo a duck for asking for 500k to fight the number 1 contender in his backyard.
<JagsKiddingMe>

I dunno whats more strange here, the oxymoron statement or the amount of likes this has...
Bots exposing themselves?
<TheWire1>

uhhhh, no?
Good job making stuff up.
500k seems perfectly reasonable.
Agreed.

So fighting Robert wasn't part of the 500K quote either?

They should have just quietly paid him that, then.
Remember when big John Mccarthy talked about Conor getting like 12 million for a fight before Conor himself or the ufc said anything?

Yeah, that's how well "quietly" would have gone

because they don't want to look like they can be strongarmmed
PLUS he has one more fight on hes contract... there is no asking for more... heh win the fight demand. resign or .. lose whine make everyone laugh on Twitter,,,, demand more resign ... simple gen Z and doing everything backwards... let s piss off the company i WORK for... then demand more money lol.... vs do your job you said you do then ...you can talk...

I'm all for fighter pay, but I don't think Paulo should make more than Rob. Equal sure, but more? Not unless he's a proven PPV commodity. This is what makes sense business wise, because as @Pancake Sprawl mentioned, it sets a precedent.

If it were up to me, you give them both $500k.

Whitaker isn’t making 500k a fight?

500k seems fair.

However Costa has been a pain to work with and just had a horrible performance.

It's bullshit isn't it? He was as a champ. Last reported payout was $426K vs Vettori, but that was under the win/loss structure ($230k show/$180k win/$16k Venum). I think Rob is a proven commodity and a true professional, again as @Pancake Sprawl brought up.

I also agree with you @Pancake Sprawl Rob is easier to deal with and he should get paid more than Costa. You got the gist of what I was saying though, all elite fighters should be paid as such. 70/70 for a top 5 guy is just ridiculous at this point.
