✝️ R.I.P. BIGWAVERIDER The Greatest Sherbro of All Time!

So, why has this thread endured so? What would BWR have wanted us to learn from his life?
Mike (BWR) he lived his life by what worked for him 'stay true to yourself' and that he did.. He was a helper. his sherdog involvement was Michaels life style. he would say "I've learned, now I share". As Mike's mother have learned from my dear son. He left behind his graphic knowledge to share. Personal conversations with him amazed me. grasp what he left.

No. Fucking. Way.

Got damn it.

This has been such a horrible fucking year in regards to long term, kind and selfless Sherbros.

BWR would give you the digital shirt off of his back. He spent so much time helping us with avs and was such a positive presence. I'm gutted.

I really don't even know what to really say. BWR and Grego in only a few months time. I need a fucking beer.

EDIT: I just feel compelled to add to this post to demonstrate how good of a person BWR was. One day a fellow Sherbro admitted openly that he was sick and bed ridden, had no money and was using an old tablet to access Suredawg. BWR being the amazing guy that he was, PM'd me telling me the story, and he and I got together with a few others to kick in some money to purchase the poster a new tablet so he could better enjoy his time while he was here.

To say that BWR was one of the best and most giving people here would probably be an understatement. This is a huge loss for so many people here. Truly. I cannot imagine what his family is going through.
I haven't been on in a while and this is the first thing I see... Then I see your post which is bittersweet, because I see you are a mod now, but then you also say Greg passed? Oof...

Wayne, haven't seen you in ages man. Glad to see you're doing well.

Yeah, Grego passed early last year. A bunch of the regulars got together and kicked in for a memorial for him with a pagoda and a bridge. It's in the archives. Then afterward BWR passed. Just a kick in the balls, twice, to put it lightly. Very, very sad.

BWR aka Mike is not an ordinary person. Let me give you an example, the man was one week or so from passing, so I complained to him about a mod. Instead of telling me, I’m sorry brother I’m not feeling good, he said let me talk to the mod. Someone else won’t even answer let alone attend to my silly request. He is/was one of a kind, a giver and a loving soul. He kept me interested in Sherdog and taught me how to forgive and endure and that’s only by email chat. I can only imagine in real person the man he was!
Though I must say his passing to the heavens brought us closer and showed us that one day you’re here the next you might not be. BWR RIP brother and nothing but love and admiration to you and yours.

Sorry but it still hurts

I'm sorry for everyone's loss. I've been apart of several wrestling fan forums where a member would pass on. Their light won't fade if you remember them.

Don't mourn for @bigwaverider's death but celebrate his life. Remember how good of a person he has been to you. Remember the advice he's given or jokes he's told.

In my wrestling days, we use to tribute a show to the person. I doubt there's fantasy MMA League here but perhaps you can honor BWR by making a End of the Year Award named after him?

I didn't know Big but i do mourn for his friends and family. Be good to one another, and take care.

Hello my name is Bryan and I am BWR's little and only brother.
I am completely flabbergasted by the outpouring of love for my Brother in this community.
My Brother loved Surfing and when his illness did not afford him to express himself in the waves he turned to Photoshopping.
His work is incredible and I thank each and everyone of you for allowing him this freedom of expression. I want to thank @Arqueto personally because my brother was a very private person and your personality enabled him to open up and be his real self, Thank You @Arqueto
To @HUGHPHUG I am totally sure that the Magnificent story and all stories Michael (BWR) has told you about me are 100% true.
And now I have a story for all about THE BIG WAVE RIDER.
As I said before Michael LOVED to surf and we surfed together for many years. As a matter of fact we both loved the sport so much we ended up in Hawaii. We used to surf a break called Log Cabins regularly during the winter. The waves on the North Shore can grow from 4-6 feet up to 15 feet in just a short time and Log Cabins is no exception. When the waves began to grow and grow and grow I would paddle south towards the smaller waves while my brother would paddle North towards the Pipeline to a break called Rockpiles, a Triple Black Diamond type wave that took Big Coconuts to even consider a paddle out. After a couple seasons I finally asked him why he didn't just head south with me to the smaller safer funner waves and he said "Because I am a Big Wave Rider."
Surfing in their souls

Carole, if you would kindly indulge me and all of Sherdog, could you ever have imagined that when you were a kid, you would one day have a kid who would then have such an impact on a website that you would then eventually be brought into the conversation and regularly post on that website that concerned itself primarily with karate?

It's a yes/no question, but please feel free to go on at any length on this topic!

ALL HAIL CAROLE!

I’ve never had any interactions with BWR in my time on Sherdog in all my years visiting the forum, but if anyone, anywhere, mentioned ‘photoshop’, this guy known to me only as @bigwaverider on an mma forum, would spring to mind, such was his brilliance and sublime imagination. I will never forget this guy who I now know to be called Mike. Brilliant, sublime Mike X
Kind truthful words. Tk u

All hail Mike and to all sherdogs for their heart of gold... Everyday go onto site and another pledge to Mike.. overwhelming. Always knew his work off the charts. He always asked me to check out most of his entries, could not catch my breath not because he is my treasure but his creativity off the chart. High school days teachers always called me to complain that Mike would fall asleep. My answer to them was"put him in the back let him sleep for your curriculum boring to him." Last three weeks of grading time stay awake and earned being on honor role, always... Passion for surfing that he was Bigwaverider waves had to be big.. his knowledge of workings and fixing computers top draw.. honestly he was a genius. Have mentioned other wonders take a book. Warmest regards all my friends without faces

The sherdog world leaves me knowing and assuring that Mike was a humble genius.
I always knew that Mike was unusual in a good way. He was a quiet child but very mechanically inclined. If it was broken give it to Mike now it works. There was times when he annoyed me because no matter what I said he would show me that I was wrong not in an arrogant way just a sure way and he was right. Knew from when school started that he was above all. I always knew my dear boy was extremely special gifted person. How this happened I will never know. His father and I were average people. Mikes brother Bryan is another smart one. He tells me things and I act at times like I know what he is saying same as Mike. Thank you for such a beautiful question. The main answer is not easy just amazing living with my precious Mike. Life is empty without him and his challenges. Warm regards to whoever reads above. Carole

Hi there! Mike was so nice to all of us and his memories will stay with me just like a brother from another mother. My real brother also passed at the age of 59 to the evil disease and he left 2 children and a diabetic wife. I connected very strongly with Mike because he never not once was arrogant and always looked to help in every way he could even though we were just cyber bodies. Just an amazing one of a kind person in every meaning of the word. Thank you for bringing him into the world. I’m so proud to chat with you BWR’s mom, it’s huge honor.
