Media The worst stoppage in MMA history just happened

Holy hell. That ref needs his ass kicked.

Anyone who’s going to ref Mma should have at least a blue belt in Bjj , you can’t be that unversed in grappling and be in charge of the fighter’s safety

Including himself, tap before you go out and it’s not an issue…

That's true for those really choosing to refuse, however it often really is a case of going unconcious before you expect it. These guys could be working on an escape without realizing how tight the choke is and they could be out before they get a chance to tap.

That is why it's not just the job of the fighter to take care of his own safety other than "protect yourself at all times" which is geared towards the striking aspect.

The ref was probably a faces of death fan when he was younger and wanted to see if he could catch a glimpse of the soul departing the body.

How does the corner not throw in the towel here’s?

“he never gave the signal so he’s just playing possum. We train for this”

I would say incompetent announcers from what I see. They keep yelling he's out, but he was clearly moving his legs during the armbar, and he tapped out! Did look like he might have been out at beginning of armbar though. I would never want to be an MMA ref!

Cut a chicken's head off and it still kicks for a while too. The guy was unconscious from the triangle cutting off blood to his brain for a while and was having involuntary survival movements. He was clearly unresponsive when the guy released the triangle to switch to the arm bar. He initially had no reaction at all while his arm was being extremely hyper extended at the least. He only started moving because after the triangle was released, blood started flowing to his brain again and slowly regained consciousness and awareness to eventually tap before his arm was completely separated from his body while the ref just watched.

The opponent missed his chance - disengaging and standing up from the unconscious guy is an awesome finish

How is this a bad stoppage? Are we supposed to be convinced the guy was out just because the commentator said so?

I'm not even saying he wasn't out but its silly to be 100% sure one way or the other. Yall know nothing

We used to joke about crackerjack drivers licenses - I think that shit applies pretty well for a number of Refs...

That was the worst I’ve seen, I think

<Huh2>

Ref needs to be held accountable. It was bad enough when the guy was squeezed unconscious and choke was held on, but then the guy switched to a armbar and broke his arm

:rustled:

Fuck all that. Incompetent asshole of a ref.

He was moving his legs because he was spasming while unconscious; he tapped out because dude switched to an armbar so he woke up getting his arm snapped like a bad dream and didn't even realize what was happening.

A large part of being an MMA ref is about being cognizant of the danger fighters are in during grappling exchanges and knowing how to properly monitor and gauge the risk of a given submission. If you see a guy is in a fully locked in submission you should be hovering nearby looking to see if he is about to tap or go out and if there is any doubt whatsoever you can check their wrist, ask them if they are ok to continue, etc.

It's just pure incompetence of the highest magnitude and apparently dude has reffed over 100 MMA fights before, which just shows you how truly ridiculous this "sport" is at times that these are the types of officials you deal with as the norm.

Seriously if he didnt switch to an armbar... He mightve died. Not even joking. This ref HAS to be punished. Just insane.
Or worse, could've been turned into a vegetable. I've never seen such incompetence from a referee before.

I got into combat sports in the mid 80s, and I'm not sure I've ever seen worse. Watching this made me want to soccer kick that stupid, fat fuck in the head. It goes without saying that Frank Collazo can never ref a fight again.

Shame on everyone in the vicinity who watched while that unconscious fighter took major damage. How the hell did the ref not see he was out cold? Horrible
