By not challenging for the 205 belt. Double champ status would have boosted his already strong claim to GOAT status and its not like he wasn't capable of doing it. He dispatched Forrest like no one ever had previously and would have been a threat to anyone in title contention at the time. I understand that Lyoto was his friend at the time and he didn't want to fight him but, it's not like he couldn't have got the belt before that and vacated or after Lyoto lost the belt. It's not like Machida went on to be a dominant champion, he lost his first defense to Shogun. And after that he had many chances to fight for the belt if he chose to but instead went on to fight Irving and Bonnar. This and the losing skid he went out on Post Weidman 2 are my only real criticisms of an otherwise amazing career.

Anderson was 38 when he lost to Weidman. And he was in his 40s and post leg break when he went on a losing skid.

You say he sabotaged his career by not challenging himself by fighting for the 205 belt. But the whole reason he went on a losing skid was because he wouldn't quit challenging himself.

Anderson is #1 ll time in most title fight wins. #2 all time for most top 10 wins in a career. He's #2 all time for the longest winning streak in the UFC. #2 all time in consecutive title defenses. He was double champ and ranked top 5 in 3 weight classes. And on top of that there was a 3-4 year span when Anderson was ranked #1 p4p in a time when Fedor, GSP, and Jones were all active.

The only person with a compelling argument over Silva all time is Jones. Hard to say he didn't challenge himself.

The champchamp gimmick wasn't invented yet.

It's like saying so-and-so in 1999 would have been much better if he'd done weight cuts like Barboza.

GSP didn't fight at 185, Silva didn't contend for the belt at 205, and Aldo wasn't allowed to fight at 155.

Conor changed it all with him gimmick. Some of us would say, for the worse. Now there is a fast track to becoming a big name that simply wasn't available before 2015 or so.

Exactly
The ufc didn't let these guys do that shit
They didn't realize how marketable it was until Conor then they went overboard
Now it's died down a bit
But, gsp, Silva, Aldo, they were all very capable of being double champs.
Personally I think Silva wins the lhw, gsp beats Silva and Aldo fucking murders whoever was at lw during his reign

It's weird that rich famous successful happy people are so often criticized and evaluated by sherdoggy key pokers.

Anderson Silva was such a prima Donna in his prime it made me wanna bugle

Anderson is #4 in UFC title fight wins. Also like to see source for "#2 in ranked top 10 wins" as gsp/Jon should both be ahead at minimum.
