Movies Apocalypse Now - Where should I start?

It was just a suggestion.

If your reading comprehension is that sorely lacking or you’re simply too lazy to read the original post or if you’re that unoriginal to make the same joke numerous others have made I will refrain from making any jokes at your expense. You already have enough issues.

Apocalyspe Now is one of my favorites, but I stand that the theatrical release is the best version, and what was cut had reason to be cut.

Watch the theatrical, give the movie some space, and watch it in full. Come back and let us know how you felt. Always love hearing people's thoughts on this.

Someone doesn't love the smell of napalm in the morning...

I’d skip it and just watch the making of hearts of darkness but it doesn’t seem to be included in your set. It’s practically impossible to find

Will do!

Pretty sure I've seen most versions of AN. I'd watch the Theatrical, Dossier then Cut.

I do the same with the Alien and a number of other fliks. Own multiple versions and jump around which I feel like watching. Usually it falls on the Director's Cut.

I'd hust go with final cut. It looks so good in UHD. It also follows up with the bunnies, adds to the atmosphere.

It's just too bad that fat fuck Brando mailed it in, cause he was still great.

All versions are excellent for different reasons.
Director's cut with all deleted, edited scenes included is a stand alone masterpiece.
But the other versions are just as worthy.

What I find fascinating are the backstories, including the fact that Brando was so self conscious about his formidable girth and obesity that he insisted on filming the encounter with Sheen's character in near darkness. "The Horror!"
In addition to receiving an unheard of $2 million a week for filming, Brando refused to interact with anyone else on set and actually despised Dennis Hopper (according to the latter in an interview about it) and remained in
his air conditioned trailer until the very last moment before a scene and upon "cut" retreated to his chilly isolation.

This, in my mind, represented some of the grand history of epic film making. Love it.

I picked up this bad boy for roughly $10 including shipping on eBay. It comes with all three versions of the film as well as the famed documentary Hearts of Darkness. I know there were some big Apocalypse Now fans on here so where should I start? Thanks!

oh shit, i've gotten a couple dvd bonus packages and am always hoping for the Hearts Of Darkness docu, i actually liked it better than the movie. I've got it on vhs but not on disk.

Before watching any Apocalypse Now movie, you should read Heart of Darkness and then watch Aguirre, the Wrath of God. Which is Apocalypse Now based more on: Heart of Darkness or Aguirre, the Wrath of God?

he was, I thought it was funny how they said he was self conscious at being fat, he had notice to lose the weight, got paid well and was still a bitch to work with. He was still brando though, remember when homboy said, "they told me you went totally insane, that your methods was unsound" and brando ran his hand over his bald head and clenched his fist on the "insane" part of the sentence.

I never understood the reasoning that the kurtz character accepted his sacrifice without ordering people to kill the guy or fight back. Even when brando is mumbling and talking in bulshit riddles he's great though.

So I watched the theatrical version last night and loved it. It really did an effective job on showing the horrors of war and how some people become immune to it (Kilgore) and some people crave it (Willard). Dammit Kilgore just wanted to go surfing damn the explosions going on all around him lmao. I’m really not that good at writing detailed reviews so I’ll just leave it at that. But it deserves all the praise that it gets.

Curious, did your set come with the Hearts of Darkness documentary? Its kind of a must watch if you dig the movie. Shit is stranger than fiction.

Just watch the most complete version. It's one of the all time great films!
