Media Petr Yan has announced that his next training camp will be at a different gym

It increnidble just how good he was in first Aljo fight. What I want to say not only his takedowns defense was better, he was also meaner and kept that pace long after Aljo gassed out like hell. That is the reason I believe he was injured in Merab fight, among many others. Merab is not a wrestler on Aljo’s level. I hope that change of camps benefit him cause I know that he is capable of better things.

I don't even think its a head thing. The fights with O'Malley and Sterling were close and could've went either way. Merab I think was just better.

What it shows to me is just how stacked BW is that a guy as good as Yan can go 0-3 like that. You just didn't see this in divisions like LHW where a guy like Glover might suffer a setback in his late 30s but once he fights down the rankings easily puts together a streak because there's only like half a dozen elite fighters in the division.

He could be 2-1 easily in his last 3, so it’s perhaps a harsh critique.

But just watch his fights with Sandhagen, Aldo, Aljo 1 - he is supremely confident in his approach and execution of techniques.

In Aljo 2 he fought too emotionally (different coaches in his corner), against Suga he fought kind of dumb at times by trying to wait and counter without feinting outside his own striking range, against Merab he just lacked a lot of sharpness in his approach and execution.

That’s not to discredit his opponents, they are the ones that helped make him fight that way/make those mistakes, but they all seem completely avoidable if you are fighting in the right headspace.

Maybe he still loses the Merab fight but he can do so much better then that in that style matchup.

Merab is way more aggressive with how he pursues wrestling though, on top of also being more aggressive with his striking. It's just a completely different look than Aljo, and that pressure flustered Yan.

That maybe the truth, but Yan was lacking not only in that department. He didn’t switch stances nearly as much as in his every previous fight, he didn’t throw hard, movement was stifled etc. In the moment of watching the fight, I assumed he was injured which he confirmed after fight. Now he may be lying, but I believe him because he was nit doing anything at level he was doing in fights before, not even defending takedowns.

But still, I agree that he should bring some variety in his camp and switch things up. Again, not takong anything from Merab, well deserved win, but there was something missing from Yan in there. Cardio, movement, not throwing while on feet, not switching stances, no variety of attacks… Everything was lacking. I would assume there is a reason for that other than Merab being a pest that he is.

Maybe a wrestling camp - even alpha male? - might be good for him.
This is what I came to say. Wherever he can get the best grappling work.

He is a great striker and Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand served him very well for striking but his takedown defense and ground game need to improve if he ever wishes to get past Merab or Sterling.

Xtreme Couture, ATT or AKA would be best fits IMO

I don't think his gym was the problem, but the change may lead to success.

Remember when everyone said Yan was P4P # 1???

He looked like someone who would dominate for a long time. He KOed Aldo, Faber and Siva De Andrade and dominated Rivera and Dodson. He was never rattled or wobbled in any of these fights.

He lost the first Sterling fight via ignorance and never recovered. I cannot explain what happened to him....lost confidence.....injuries....he just does not look the same. The loss to O'Malley was particularly hard to understand.

ATT if they have room for him. AKA or Whitmans team up in Colorado be great options as well

Yan is a good fighter. He faced off against guys who prepped against him multiple times. He just needs to rebuild now. Tiger is a weird gym. It's a gym with revolving trainers and competitors. Even guys like Volk and the MMA coach for Tiger left to start their own gym.

Hopefully wherever he lands up will encourage him not to resort back to his high guard, which has been a big downfall and detriment over his last few fights.

His wiki lists ATT as a place out of which he trains. I don't keep up with every detail of where these guys train, bc mostly, who cares, so Idk if he's had a stint there previously. But I thought I'd throw that out there.

Why doesn't he train closer to home like with Fedor?

I personally think he’s smallish for the class and often gets man handled. He needs to get stronger or go down imo. Yes he was good enough to win title but every month there’s new killers in that div. Sterling by way is massive for the weight class and Craig Jones who has trained with Sterling at Renzos in NY said he’s strong as shit .

Hatin ass haters can fuck off

I'd like see what he looks like fighting Chute Box Diego Lima-style and coming out of the gate every fight like a savage. No more slow starts making reads and "downloading data".
