One popular line of thinking is because of religious and sexual repression/obsession in general in America, a lot of it having to do with religious stigma.

Not only influences by protestantism, because you see a cabal of homosexuals abusing their power in Catholicism as well.
And it might just be that in America you will see more backlash against it and perhaps in other countries people are less outspoken about abuse within socio hierarchical structures and it’s swept under the rug more often.

Also what is deemed degenerate and depraved can be perceived subjectively as well, for example I don’t see two people who are born attracted to the same sex as perverse or degenerates, in a moralistic way, but many hardline conservatives would.
I just see it as a natural aberration within the context of sexual reproduction, analogous to other biological aberrations that are materially inevitable.
