UFC Paris: Ciryl Gane vs Serghei Spivac, September 2, France

Moises the only guy that took down Islam until Volk.I would not be shocked if Thiago beats BSD in his own game. Moises is still very young. having more ufc fights means he’s had more intense training camps. more money in his preparation as well, Thiago should be earning 100k per fight by now. He’s going to have better nutrition, training partners at att in south florida. and he has a bjj gold medal in ibjff. In his bio he’s been doing bjj since age 8. while this is wiki capping. i would point out that Thiago stuffed 3 of 6 td from Islam. he’s a solid wrestler as well as a bjj player.

One thing is pretty clear. I think first round or even first minutes will be pretty telling who wins this fight. BSD I think only has one way to win and thats imposing his will on Moises.

Arman took Islam down. I just wanted to add that correction, I have nothing useful to offer in this convo yet haha.

i also think Namajunas is a solid play, but i don’t bet on wmma

Really interested to see what the time away from the UFC did for McKee. If his TDD is better than what it was a couple of years ago then I could see him finishing Loosa.

Really?? He'd have to have gotten a lot better and his performance against Wallhead certainly didn't suggest these capabilities

I'm on the Moises side, but I agree on Rose.

I get all the red flags on Rose. She looked bad against Esparza, lost to Gillian, moves up in weight and she is a headcase.

But... In the fight against Esparza it's not like she looked bad. She just didn't do anything, It was just a whole lot of nothing. If she believed that she was winning that fight, it's not completely crazy that she just wanted to cruise to a boring win.
The lost to Gillian, it is what it is. She lost in a grappling match against a grappler. She had a lot of excuses afterwards, sometimes excuses are just that, excuses why you lost... but sometimes they do hold weight and they actually did affect the fight. She did look very off in that match.
The moving up in weight does bother me, it's not like she was huge in current division, so I don't like this move.
And lastly she is a headcase for sure, she seems very mentally weak... nothing to say about that.

But this is still Rose we are talking about. When she is on, she is on. She has beaten pretty much everyone not named Carla Esparza. Beaten the seemingly unstoppable Weili twice.

If Rose is as washed as everyone seems to assume then Manon will smoke her. I have no doubt, she'll probably look -800 while doing it. But narratives aside, I don't see anything that would suggest that she is. She is still young, that Andrade slam was now a long time ago and she has been laying low for a long time now.
Rose stand-up should be good enough to keep it somewhat even on the feet and if she can mix in a few takedowns here and there she could win this fight.

I agree that Manon should be the favourite in this fight, but not a 2 to 1 favourite.

With that said, it's not like I'm betting the house on Rose but I did put 0.5U on her. The odds are to wide.

Rose looking to become sixteen time world champion. I wouldnt be surprised if she got the title and lost on first degense again.

I mean, he is fighting Ange Loosa
Yeah but Loosa is actually well-rounded, more athletic and pushed JDM in their fight. He's not gonna make top 15 but think he'll be around the UFC for a while to come yet. Idk if I can say the same for Rhys McKee

You’re setting money on fire by betting Moises. Please don’t do it. As far as Rose, yeah she’s gonna win but i have no interest putting money on a fight Im not gonna watch

Smith easily beat Spann in the first fight, which is why I took Smith last week. I’m taking Smith again this week. I was never impressed with Ozdemir, he’s a Bellator fighter at best. Smith beat him before, he will do it again.

Dont really like the style matchup for Benoit.

Benoit biggest threat are his subs. he has like 2 kos in 12 fights. and he cant sub moises. Thiago also has far better experience, he’s been in there with Islam for like 4 rounds. Won a controversial dec with Green and a 3 rounder with Beniel. He’s the clear value side. Benoit also is a part time special forces guy. Thiago is a full timer.

BSD did beat Ismail, but Ismail isn’t that established as a fighter who souly earns his living fighting, Thiago is also a better striker, he at least can put together better combinations that resemble a muay thai fighter. Benoit being the fav is due to the market inflating his worth for the Ismail fight, pre fight with ismail and Thiago is a favorite of -150

Crazy if Benoit still does special forces. Mad respect<Eek2.0>.

I like BSD to win decision. If Moises is to win one he needs to be much better. So much better that he shuts down the crowd. Benoit is going to come out super aggressive and Thiago cant let himself get run over. It would be super impressive if BSD subbed him though.
C'mon stat,he left special forces in 2019 when he went full time MMA.

I'm considering live betting him after the first round, if he loses it. He's hittable, and I think a fresh Loosa starts out winning. Could get in a small bet at big dog odds.

I'm not sure Rose fought Gillian? (Unless you meant Esparza?) And for what it's worth, sometimes some fighters just have another fighter's number which Rose may have felt about Esparza. I don't get how anyone could call Rose washed after a loss in which she listened to her coaches who also believed she was winning the Esparza fight. She didn't want to be taken down, but one fight doesn't label her style as inactive. It's kind of unfair, given her track record shows nothing of the sort even in fights that she's lost. It's unfair to call her a headcase given the times we've heard about her mental challenges, but she's going up in weight taking on what most assume to be a fight to her disadvantage. How's that for someone who's mentally weak?

If she does what she normally has done in any other fight, she wins this weekend. Manon isn't some threat to takedowns like Esparza is, which is a totally different ballgame for WMMA. Trips aren't the same types of takedowns Esparza has in her arsenal and Manon isn't some super heavy top threat to eat the clock up like Esparza is. That makes it slightly easier for Rose IMO.

Manon is good, shouldn't be a 2 to 1 favorite, but I'm not sure she should be the favorite at all here. She's sloppy in spots, she leaves openings to be hit and honestly looks to be a small step above the gatekeepers of the division which isn't saying a lot for the level of competition Rose has taken on thus far.

I think Rose takes it this weekend.

Rose and Gillian had a grappling match last year...december? I dont feel the relevance of that one when it comes to Roses mma career though.

It's not an official loss, but I see it now. Ok, carry on.

Are you saying Loose is bad? Seems solid to me.

McKee while tough seems happy to block punches with his face and doesn't seem to have improved his TD defense much judging by his last couple CW fights. Even if Loose is losing on the feet which is not a given I feel like he'll be able to take Mckke down pretty easy and control him.

What? I'm confused by this post. Smith just fought last weekend...Oezdemir is fighting Guzkov or whatever. What are you trying to say here?
