I think you may have misunderstood the person you have been quoting a little bit. I dont think he denied that the woman was NOT in on the gag. she only found out about it after it was published. I am 100% with you on it being unacceptable but with one caveat. these men were getting away with this kind of behavior for years before it fell out of favor. i feel like they got caught up in a change that is right and good but that caught them unawares. it used to be acceptable to slap your waitress on the ass not too long ago and there is footage of the first james bond actor (his name is eluding me just now) talking about how every now and then you have to smack a woman to keep her in line... if you watch older movies the level of contempt and dehumanization in the way women are portrayed is staggering and sickening really.

anyway the point im making is that franken comes from a time when you could post that pic and never get in trouble for it. he was very clearly NOT touching her in that pic. his radar is off because of that. he is wrong of course but i do have some sympathy.

I havent heard anything about other allegations leveled against franken though but this picture alone looks just like the kind of comedy that used to be totally normal. I dont think it alone proves franken is a predator or anything like that.
