Rewatch Free fight - Aldo vs Mendes 2 (one of the best fights ever)

I don't know if I'd say it was one of the best fights ever but definitely a fun one.

This was the fight that convinced me Aldo would have toyed with Mcgregor. He ate the flushest, cleanest strikes from Chad Mendes, strikes where Mendes would put everything in his shots. I thought Aldo would just be technically superior and would pick Conor apart.

Nope.

He was too emotional against Conor and came out too quick and aggressive. Conor back then was calculated and technical, as over the top as he was outside the cage.

But now cocaine has made that persona his actual personality and he's lost everything that ever made him good at fighting. I think Aldo would wreck him today, even with a significant weight disparity.

when FW division was insane.
Mendes would dominate if there was no Aldo.

I'm picking Aldo for a rematch forever, he was emotional and Dedé has the worst gameplan ever, he ruined Aldo and Barão

I think Mendes would have beaten any other flyweight in the world at this time.

Biggest letdown was the rematch that never materialized.

Had Aldo fought like he was actually up against an elite striker in Conor, it would have been a very safe bet that the fight would have looked completely different. I don't know who would have won, but it wouldn't have ended in 13 seconds.

It would have been interesting had it reached the championship rounds for sure.

Also shows the warped minds of MMA fans that so many were against a rematch (because the UFC told them to be) when that's the exact type of fight that warrants it. Instead we get Islam vs Chucky Olives 2 and people love it.

A 13-second win where both guys land a punch simultaneously, the winner gets split open, and we are supposed to pretend that's a complete wrap and the fight would always play out like that. Just like Cain vs JDS 1.

The UFC played that beautifully. Assuming they thought Aldo would win a rematch, or have a closer fight, what better way to catapult the next big thing at that time than end the rivalry with a 13 second knockout against arguably the greatest featherweight of all time. Shame we didn't get to see it.

To those that haven't seen it it's a great back and forth between these guys in their prime. Lots of big moments

Awesome fight. Jose was a absolute stud.

I’m glad this epic fight is being remembered respectfully and wasn’t spoiled with the late punch after round 1.

both guys were beasts in their prime

One of the best fights ever, highly technical, both men in perfect shape fighting extremely hard and passionate home crowd

This fight was so good. I remember watching a video where McGregor was cage side during the fight loosing his shit and someone asked him if he could beat Aldo and Mendes. He said he could beat both of these guys, I thought he was delusion after watching the fight then he did just that.
