How does the fight go?

I don't think Francis should be in a hurry to fight anyone else.

I mean Fury is the champ, and Francis basically pulled a Rocky 1 on him.

Francis' stock is really high right now, so why risk that by fighting a guy that's not the champ? The risk/reward isn't there.

I think Francis needs to hold out for a Fury rematch. That's going to be his biggest payday. Unfortunately that Usyk fight might screw things up. This is why you should never agree to your next opponent before you face your current one.

Anyhoo, I think Francis needs to sit in the sidelines and try to get the biggest fight he can, and that will either be a Fury rematch or an Usyk fight, depending on who wins. And that will likely be the end of Francis' boxing career. But he'll walk away with 2 huge paydays rather than 1.

People used to laugh at these matchups, but we see they may very well be much more competitive than we initially assumed.

Even Conor vs Floyd, people conveniently forget that Conor was damn close to finishing Floyd with a body shot before the disgustingly corrupt/biased ref came to save his boy. Plus other MMA fighters learned from that initial groundbreaking fight, which Francis showed, and his own performance will further bolster the confidence for MMA fighters in future boxing matchups.

I don't think Usman would do well against Canelo because Usman is a wrestler first and foremost, that learned to strike, and Canelo is exceptionally dangerous. However, O'Malley frustrates Tank by keeping him on the outside with his MASSIVE height and reach advantage, eventually dropping Tank with a counter when he loses patience and comes lunging in.

Actually this was .

Actually that wasn't. They had these matches since the late 1800s but it got popular in Paris in 1905 with numerous of these matches between fighting disciplines. Sam McVea who was a HW legend was offered a fight against a Jiu Jitsu opponent and KOd him in 8 seconds on Dec 31, 1908. He was 25-5-1 at the time. Another boxer KOd another Jiu Jitsu guy to the affect that it led to the rise of boxing and a decline in Jiu jitsu sports in Paris.
Sam McVea would fight one of the best all in fighters of the time, Professor Stevenson a Jiu Jitsu expert on 11/06/1913 when he was 54-10 at the time.
McVea KOd him in 5 after Stevenson had controlled the early part of the fight with his grappling.
McVea went 2-0 in All In fighting.

Long time sporadic poster here, big fan of the sweet science over MMA. I had Fury in my top 10 HW's of all time.

Fury has been compared to Ali, has good head movement, ring IQ , speed, a decent chin, punch selection and a jab.

Enter a guy who laces them up for the first time and arguably won the fight and embarrasses boxing.I've read the other threads but I still struggle in attributing the failure to:

An off night
Lack of prep, etc
Ngannou is a beast

Fury should have put a clinic on him. What happened to the sweet science?

Usman vs Canalo no chance, that would be a rough fight for Usman. Davis vs Omalley, that could be interesting and closer than people think, but Davis would still take this comfortably.

HW a the best division for a mma fighter to do well. The lower weight classes are more challenging.

I actually have my doubts about the OP. Yeah, no one from MMA is going to beat Crawford in boxing, but there are some pretty weak belt holders in boxing with all of the different belts floating around. I wouldn't be at all surprised if another MMA fighter could do well against one of them.

Also, it isn't anything to do with HW other than the fact that HW is especially weak right now. I don't agree with all of the Monday morning quarterbacking on why the fight happened the way it did. Everyone pretty much thought the skill level would put Fury out of reach, but the fact is that it didn't, and that is quite noteworthy.

scripted pro wrestling champ Antonio Inoki took Muhammad Ali to a draw. None of this should be surprising

besides, Fury won, all this hoopla with the fight is completely unwarranted.

Fury just didn't take it serious.
Go watch the fight again and you'll see that Fury won 7 or 8 rounds. Ngannou had the KD and a moment in the 8th where he landed a few decent shots. That was pretty much it

Neither of those guys have the chins or power to do that. Boxers are still better boxers than MMA fighters. X factors are required to overcome that skill difference and neither have those attributes that led Francis to do what he just did.

I'm also willing to bet no boxer is going to show up as unseriously as Fury was now so the next cross over is far more likely to be a blowout.

No. According to some, this travesty could NEVER occur at smaller weight classes.

No one cares about fake fights. "No it's real, Inoki had to scoot on his ass all day because of strategy"

I believe some fighters may present problems but they shouldn't beat these guys at their craft. Usman and O malley I don't see well fit for the sport.

Heavyweight is the weakest division in combat sports skill wise and depth wise, it’s not a real comparison between a lightweight cross over boxing fight and a heavyweight one. Except for lobov of course but he’s special…

I had Fury winning every round but 2, arguably 3. Fury's jab won the fight, but Francis proved that he belonged in there. Frank boxed intelligently and out muscled Fury, which clearly threw Fury off.

I'd like to see Frank vs AJ, I think that is a better fight than Wilder. I think that Wilder would finish Frank relatively quickly, but I could see Frank doing well against the more robotic AJ.
