He didn't just take already great fighters and improved them like other coaches, he literally taught them how to fight and made them the best in the world. Absolute legend!

Fun fact: Khabib is the only fighter to snatch the P4P #1 spot from an Active Jon Jones

It cannot be overlooked that he trained 2 guys from scratch until they where literally the best in the world

Not many coaches can say they trained two young kids (one son) to be at the very peak of the mountain

Hate khabib and Islam all you want, but Abdulmanap was a special man/coach

A real Goat
Javier mendes also played a huge part polishing these guys, he made them better, but Father's plan is what made them special

No, Islam just did the same thing. Took Jones' spot.

Khabib's dad was one of those guys who you could just look at and know they don't fuck around with anything they do in life.

Abdulmanap wasn't accepting anything less than P4P #1 status from those boys.

Islam's arc making Khabib's choices and achievements seem small.

Neither of them were #1 P4P though. They only ever artificially briefly become it when Jon Jones is being inactive and lose it whenever he's back.

Must suck that Jon's been champion since longer than either of them were ever even in the UFC.

Young Islam was beautiful

Amazing accomplishment considering both of them only got that rank after his death when he wasn't their coach.

Second only to Bob Shamrock in my view.

Bob didn't parent Ken Shamrock until Ken was 14. He took a kid from terrible struggles and gave his life immense meaning. Ken became a pro wrestler known around the world and a UFC Champion.

Likewise Bob adopted Frank Shamrock at 21, and despite serving years in jail, Frank also became a UFC Champion.

It's totally different to raising your own, and both require a completely different skill set - but Bob Shamrock deserves immense praise.

Bob didn't just want his boys to became fighters though, he just wanted them to find something they were good at.

Abdulmanap trained with Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov since they were young kids too. I think Umar and Usman went to go live and train with Abdulmanap and Khabib around 14-16 years old full time and would visit to train before that. They of course also started wrestling as young kids prior and competed in Muay Thai.

GOAT coach

And it's not like he was gifted young athletes with extraordinary physical talent like Mike Tyson. Khabib and Islam are good athletes no doubt but they don't stand out from other good MMA fighters athletically. They're all about skill, technique, discipline, mentality, IQ, gameplanning. He taught them that.
