News PFL officially purchases Bellator

No, it’s getting embarrassing, really. Between the white-trash-FC of last weekend to the general decline in MMA quality, getting to that point. Still, it’s cage fighting, therefore I don’t expect all that much.
I mean as opposed to what? Boxing? Kickboxing?

Bellator has become a bit of a meme but for the most part I’ve enjoyed their cards over the last few years so it’s sad to see it come to an end. I’m not a huge fan of the PFL, I watch it but the tournament format kind of sucks in my opinion.

That being said I’m sure there’s some damn good fights to be made now that the rosters are combined

I expect more from boxing.

Kickboxing is just a lost cause; they are still running events with Badr as the headliner. Whatever big K-1 rebranding that was announced has, as expected, turned out nothing.

Bellator has been degrading into near unwatchability for years now. Between the inconsistent quality of their roster, the awful commentary, the cheap overall production and the haphazard schedule of events, it's about as bad as it could be. I dont see how PFL could really make it any worse.

It's really too bad.

Five or six years ago I used to watch all the Bellator cards and back then the prelims often delivered the best fights.

Have to admit I've about given up... Maybe it's me,,, Maybe it's them.

So if a buy-out/change gets my interest up by improved content? Good. Or maybe I'm a fucking casual who just cant appreciate.

Bud, it is obvious that you have familiarity with Bellator. Now, imagine what you just posted, and then imagine that PFL is worse than Bellator in just about every aspect of anything.

Yes, they can definitely do worse.

PFL actually seems a little more reserved and composed in their general production, although outside of the occasional Ray Cooper fight, I don't even watch it any longer.

Now that it’s over, favorite Bellator fight or fighters?

Even though he’s a piece of shit, one of the first fights I think about is Warren losing to Villa (the pos being Villa).

His loss to Curran was brutal.

Also, all of those fights between Curran, Strauss and Pitbull were epic.

My overall favorite, though, would probably be Eddie versus Chandler, in the rematch. The ending was brutal. For fans who missed it, I'll just say that it's very much in the spirit of Lawler versus MacDonald (title fight).

Kind of wish PFL stayed afloat on its own. More MMA organizations are a good thing. I believe there should be a Cobra Kai dojo on every corner of every street in the nation.

They'd be better off focusing on what they can do well rather than trying to have a dick measuring contest with the UFC, or talking about co-promotions that will never happen with the UFC.

PFL-ator is a clear #2 now. Build from there.

Maybe try to arrange for anyone to know the name of any PFL champ. Maybe their TV partner ESPN could put a HL in sports center some day. Maybe their biggest signing ever could fight IN THEIR ORG at some point.

Not really embarrassing, or white trash, more so dirty and/or odd. I can’t recall many men walking out of the ring like that, and I have seen a lot of fights.
Im just sayin, crazy ass (or trashy) shit will ALWAYS happen in fight sports. Its to be expected, even if we might not like it.

If the last bellator event tells us anything about the future of the org, then boy, do I feel for pfl. That was a shitshow

Fucks sake, hope they don't fuck it up as badly as I think they will.

AWESOME!

A matchmaker's dream scenario

I get that they're keeping Bellator going, but that hardly means no talent trades, and with PFL and Bellator likely doing 'big' PPV events, I bet we get some fun fights!

Bellator was stale as hell, and PFL's tournament format meant poor match ups and repeat fights. Hopefully this opens up a whole new world!

Shit, James Toney put on the gloves again a week or so back. Combat Sports is the last place to look if you don't want to see trashy shit.

I wonder how much money they're going to toss at this over the coarse of this whole deal.

PFL's match making regardless of their 'playoff' format has been horrendous (look at the Manfio/Schultze/Burgos shit show); their production amateuish; and roster lacking. Bellator has had it's moments but under Coker devolved into a mess with some terrible cards for the most part after it ditched the tournament format despite having some great fighters at the top with no depth. I have zero faith this will work with PFL running things. I hope I'm wrong.
