Religious communities and tribes. Keeping alive the traditions of those religions and tribes gave people meaning. Family was central to all of that.

Yes, it does. It has absolutely everything to do with a lack of meaning in people's lives today. That's why people are always trying to fill a void which can never be filled. They're not content and their existence has no real substance. Gen Z is the most extreme example of this. They're the first truly soulless generation. They're raised on social media and video games and are constantly looking for something to belong to. It's no wonder they attach themselves to the LGBT tribe, along with other soulless endeavours (obsessively following politics).
'LGBT' includes two other groups (besides lesbian), which is really what this is all about. Just being a 'gay man' today isn't enough. To be a gay man is basically to be a straight white man, in the world of identity politics.
