I'd say his era of HW's and his fighting style/way he won them is the best. No, he's not overlooked at all. His resume isn't that deep. He spent basically his prime years fighting JDS and Bigfoot Silva.
One of my more controversial MMA takes is that, at his peak, Cain Velasquez was the best heavyweight ever. I believe the version of Cain who nearly killed Junior Dos Santos twice could have beaten Fedor, Stipe, Ngannou and Jones.
Prime Cain is the best HW ever, hands down. One of my more controversial MMA takes is that, at his peak, Cain Velasquez was the best heavyweight ever. I believe the version of Cain who nearly killed Junior Dos Santos twice could have beaten Fedor, Stipe, Ngannou and Jones.
I don't think his standing defense was all that great but that's me.I'd say his era of HW's and his fighting style/way he won them is the best.
He had no real weakness in his game(outside of injuries).
Early in his career, the Kongo fight comes to mind. Cain had such a great chin though that it didn't matter that night.I don't think his standing defense was all that great but that's me.
His offensive marksman skills also left a lot to be desired.I don't think his standing defense was all that great but that's me.

I can add more if you want! His offensive marksman skills also left a lot to be desired.
Except for Junior dos Santos (who Cain turned into Senior dos Santos and even beat Cain the first time) I think those guys could beat eachother in any given night. Specially with Francis power, Stipe wrestling and Jones always finding ways to win.One of my more controversial MMA takes is that, at his peak, Cain Velasquez was the best heavyweight ever. I think we forget, but Stipe also lost to JDS pretty badly. It was a UD, not a flash KO like the one Cain lost with.Except for Junior dos Santos (who Cain turned into Senior dos Santos and even beat Cain the first time) I think those guys could beat eachother in any given night. I think he’s the best fighter ever period Cain at his peak beats any mma fighter ever including any version of jonesOne of my more controversial MMA takes is that, at his peak, Cain Velasquez was the best heavyweight ever. How many of his wins went to decision again opposed to his (T)KO's?His offensive marksman skills also left a lot to be desired.
Really good point on a surface level but you look into the history and Cain wasn't 100% in any of those fights except maybe Werdum and JDS wasn't even in his prime when he fought Stipe the 2nd time.Ye he was great but stipes resume is so much deeper, including beating the 3 people who beat cain
