Damn bro Jan won that fight. Showed terrible fatigue and body language at the end of round 2, but there’s no doubt he did way more damage and control in that round. He must have clipped Alex with like 4 flush left hooks in that round lol.

Either way it is what it is. Jan did a great job. Such an underrated striker

Dunno if he's a underrated striker. I recall him winning the standup vs Izzy, and prior to that making Gus turn into a (sorta) panic wrestler.

Which is why I think sometimes people forget how good he is. He looks slow and plodding, he’s not very flashy, but he’s extremely effective.

Calf kicked and body jabbed Alex too, when that is his bread and butter.
Also destroyed ankalaevs legs

Yeah I'm also convinced a lot of people watching were fooled by Jan's horrible body language from being so gassed at the high altitude as well. After the fight some people legit thought Pereira dominated the standup, which clearly wasn't the case.

If he just had more energy to do work from the top when he took down Alex in the 2nd and 3rd, there's no way they could deny him that decision.

Sea Level Jan dominates Pereira imo.

I thought Perreira won when I first watched it live. On rewatch I gave it to Blachowicz. I remember long stretches of Alex doing nothing and Jan being more active.

It’s another one of those fights where ppl say Jan got tired but don’t acknowledge Alex’s bodyshots which made Jan get tired. I haven’t watched it in a while but remember that being the case. I could be wrong
He got tired from wrestling. A couple jabs to the body is not gonna drain your gas tank lol.
The fight was in Utah, 4000 ft elevation.

I agree - while I watched it live I scored it 2:1 for Jan.
First round was for Big J without a doubt.
Second was really even but Alex stole it with last minute flurry and combinations.
Third is tricky - Jan had more damaging shots but from what I recall Pereira had few more. But Blacho had takedown and control time.

I think that UFC machine wanted to push Alex further to create a star (Jan is at tail end of his career) and they went with narrative that Poatan had defeated both Jan and Israel. Yada yada you know what I mean. They had a chance to push him further so they gave him close fight but I don't think that decision was right. If not elevation maybe Jans gameplan would work better.

So a 40 year old Jan who previously went 5 rounds with Izzy and has never gassed as early as he did in that Pereira fight gasses conveniently at high altitude which is known to effect people to varying different degrees and yet its Pereira’s bodyshots that had an effect?

It was a very close fight but I slightly give it to Jan 2-1, but it was close.

Jan is just much better than people think, how many times do fighters call him out? they obviously think its not overly difficult, and then when they fight him they find out that he's much better than they realize.

The guy I wanted to win lost a competitive fight, so it was obviously a robbery.

Find the pbp. Before they announced the winner I was sure Jan won. But like always.. I abide with the judges call, and I move on.

Now he’s getting surgery. At his age, it might be over. But I’ll cheer for him against any other LHW. I’m wishing him the best, as always.

well body language plays a part in scoring

if you act like a punch or leg kick hurt the judges are gonna score that. even if you fake it to lure your opponent in.

so moral of the story for Jan... stop acting tired when you're tired
