Poirier Chandler Scorecards and thoughts on the fight

Poirer has become so seasoned. If the dude doesn't tap he doesn't get finished. In a fire fight he always seems to be able to weather the storm and come out on top
On the feet he's so bloody, violent, tough and durable it's fun to watch. He has the confidence and willingness to take the fight there and believe he will come out on top. I love that about him.

I thought Chandler won both 1st and 2nd round. First round he dominated except last 30 seconds

Great fight, went about how I thought other than the finish. Chandler has never been sub’d before so Dustin doing that was unexpected and pretty impressive IMO.

A lot of people talked about how Chandler just needed to wrestle but it’s been obvious for awhile now that he doesn’t wrestle because his cardio can’t sustain it.
He's one-round cardio guy. He did better than I thought. I thought this was a mismatch. Dustin has elite boxing and thrives in the bloody wars. Chandler isn't a top of the division fighter anymore. He's probably 5-10 ranking wise at this point.

The most violent man isnt shaken by fish hooks. Chandler tried to street fight a street fighter and paid. Great fight though.

I want Porier vs Diaz

Stupid fight even if Diaz was still aeound

If Poirier wants another title shot he shall fight Beneil or Fiziev

Luke Rockhold rubs his bloody face all over Paulo Costa - supposedly that’s cool and makes him an absolute warrior and “got that dog in him”.

Chandler does it against an arch rival, he’s a cheating, dirty scumbag.

It’s a dogfight. Dustin has a history of whining and complaining when fouls are committed. He plays up to shit and constantly complains.

Call out fouls, sure… but the dude had petulant energy.

Pretty sure most people are criticizing Chandler for the fish hooking.. which you coincidentally don’t mention.

Chandler's fight with Gaethje was 1-1 (on 2 judges' cards) going into the 3rd as well

Chandler tried slams in both 3rd rounds and got reversed and lost the rest of the round because of the technical error he made in it
Rookie behavior from Michael Candler

He could have won both fights if he ever decided to fight smart instead of entertaining.

But we fans love his entertainment over all else approach hopefully he doesn’t change

I thought it was 1-1 with Chandler looking like he got hit by a car in comparison going into the 3rd .
And it’s so easy to say from your couch , but if someone put their fingers in my mouth and tried to tear my face I could see being mad for longer than 30 seconds too

I thought it was clearly 1-1 going into the 3rd but Chandler had taken a lot more damage and the damage was wearing on him and he was fading. That smashed nose probably wasn't helping matters. Dude was probably struggling to breathe properly. Poirier smashed Chandler and hurt him badly in the round he won. Chandler largely won his round via ground control. His biggest moments in the fight came from going for an RNC by blatantly fish hooking and about a dozen GNP shots that were obviously illegal to the back of the head.

Ultimately, the better fighter won the fight.

Well said. Poirier nearly murdered him in the first round and the guy was ultimately saved by the bell.

Round 2 was wrestling control where Chandler's only "had him in trouble" moment was blatantly cheating. It also changed the dynamic of how you fight back when you know 1) your opponent is willing to cheat out in the open and 2) the referee isn't seeing it.

The better man won.

Chandler should be fined, and he certainly should not be getting more of these fights with his 2-3 record. He needs to fight an up and coming fighter.

So happy Chandler got crushed. Proven cheater, alleged PED cheat, and he got called fake by DP (who is a real man so he didn't elaborate publicly).

Wouldn't be surprised to find out Mike is really a TJ tier asshat in private....imo (the new allegedly lol)

Also can't stand when guys don't improve their skills as much and rely on their athleticism. Chandler and Romero are two huge offenders. Always happy to see them get spanked by a real fighter for trying to be exploitative.

Poirer is a god among men, so fierce, yet elegant. A true pillar of honor. Poirer bless. Hot sauce bless. Louisiana bless.

Fish hook and blood spilled intentionally on Poirier's face.. I lost respect for Chandler who turned into the Bellator scum he is.

Looked like at one point a clot came loose and spilled a pile out all over

My Starlink dropped out for the last of round 1. I had MC clearly ahead in the round when it dropped.

Dustin reversed/escaped at the end of the round and landed significant damage?

He slammed his head on the Gaethje takedown cause of how Gaethje was grabbing him on the way down, I think he was even winning the beginning of the 3rd before that but he rocked himself and lost the rest of the round and the fight. I think the major mistake he made in the 3rd against Dustin was falling to his back when he was on Dustin's back instead of securing the position and working GnP for the rest of the round like he had just done the round prior. He's becoming like Sonnen was early in his career with the bonehead moves.

I think he can still sustain it but the way he's fighting isn't like what it used to be 2-3+ years ago. It looks like he's choosing to fight at a super high pace and try and KO everyone in the first round and then recover if he can't. He also won the 2nd round of the fight with his wrestling and GnP and probably would have won the fight if he focused on keeping Dustin down in round 3 instead of rolling to his back going for a RNC.

I need to rewatch this fight. It was such a banger.

Its been a while since I last watched the fight but remember thinking Chandler was comfortably winning going into round 3 before he badly gassed.

Yeah, it was a hell of a fight, Chandler threw it away though trying to be exciting and giving up position to go for the RNC instead of maintaining control and going for GnP and submissions from top position.
