How stupid do you have to be to believe that grounded knees are too "dangerous" to be allowed?

Upkicks to grounded opponents should be legal too, like in Oliveira vs Arman
Silva never should've been DQ'd against Okami in their first fight. Let's give fighters, especially strikers, another tool off their back. It makes little sense that the guy on top can cave your skull into the ground, but you can't throw an upkick to fight back.

Man I dont know
Grounded elbows are FAR FAR more dangerous. That is due a simple fact: elbows can be landed way faster, the same happens with hammer fists. Hence, it's common to see fighters knocked OUT receiving 2 or 3 elbows clean in the face. The same does not happen with knees, because they are way slower to throw. Grounded knees will give to us more dynamic fights, with takedowns being risker to attempt, but, at same time, more rewarding. If you desagree, please, explain to me why i am wrong. Here is the videos that prove my point. I know, highligts don't tell the whole story. Maybe they look more brutal, because there is more TKO's by elbows. However, i think, by those videos, you can see my point.

Man I dont know. Someone posted on here a video of another fight organization where grounded knees were legal. The video had a fighter on his back and his opponent was on top in side control. The fighter on top kneed the guy in the head/side of the head and they guy on bottom looked like he was mentally retarded instantly. I know using that comparison is pretty shameful but its the best descriptor I can come up with. The second that knee his head head his pupils dilated visibly from the normal camera and not even a close up. His face just took on that look like he was brain damaged for life and he aint ever comin back to the way he was. I only watched the clip one time because it was so gruesome. Ever since then ive been dreading a similar incident happening to another fighter...

Depends. Does the head have room to move? If we get a lot of Coleman-Igor situations where a guy's head is trapped while he takes flush knees then hell yes it's more dangerous. Don't kid yourself.
That was a prime example I was thinking of. I was also thinking Randleman had some vicious knees to a grounded opponent too. But hell Hendo launching 5 ft into the air to land the hellbow to Bisping was pretty damn brutal, and totally necessary.

It's really a no brainer that knees should be legal. Nothing more dangerous about getting kneed while on the ground than getting kneed while standing or getting hit by a 360 round house kick to the head lol.

The more dangerous part is that it can keep happening, over and over and over again, and you don't have as many options to evade them. Sure, you CAN get hit with repeated standing knees (just ask Rich Franklin), but usually you're able to pull away or otherwise avoid repeated blows. And if you're getting hit over and over again with roundhouse kicks, that's your own darn fault for standing next to a human helicopter.

You ever Ben hit with one it's dangerouse it may be slower but it's still fast enough there more weight and power just because it looks soft doesn't mean it is. I don't agree with you're theory and this is a sport not a street fight
I disagree. You can see by the video that no one (besides being possible, but its not that frequent) was put out by just one grounded knee, because they aren't that powerfull on those positions. Grounded knees, IMO, don't seems to be more concusive than grounded elbows. Tbh, i would love to see data on this, in that case, comparing concusions after tkos from grounded knees X grounded elbows. On the street fight part, i mean, knees aren't more street than elbows. Stomps and kicks are.

But that is bad reffing. Happens a lot in ufc as well. Fighters getting strong ground pound (sometimes being out and receiving elbows in the face) and taking long naps.

What was the old pride fight where someone was using both their knees to pound the others head in on the ground?

It wasn't coleman / igor

At least I don't think

You mean when Randleman smashed Yamamoto's skull with double knees?

I personally love knees to a grounded opponent, I wish they never got rid of them. They've changed the sport so much, so many things removed. Knees to the head on the ground make the fights so much more exciting and fun when its on the ground, and also it brings more violence which is a very good thing, we can't lose sight that this is supposed to be Ultimate Fighting.. which I feel is getting lost on too many people these days.

I'm totally for bringing them back.

The commissioners were huge pussies when the Unified Rules were approved. Bring back grounded knees, soccer kicks, stomps, and 12-to-6 elbows.
THIS

Something I can't stand and I hate more than anything is when a fighter puts his hand on the floor and then the opponent can't knee or kick them, its ridiculous and it looks so LAME and pathetic.. and now they don't even have to put a full hand down, all they do it touch their fingertips to the mat and you can't hit them!! what is this?!! this is not Ultimate Fighting!! and that hand on the floor rule is about as far away from real fighting as possible. Its beyond lame

It's the optics and I guess buying into the propaganda the commission put out.

Soccer kicks should be legal too, but that'll take decades before people wake up. Soccer kick KO's look too vicious.
High kicks are hard to land. Standing knees land once flush and the guy is down. Grounded knees are very dangerous. Plus so many dqs cause back of the head from failed takedowns into knees. Put your head down it lands illegaly.

In a cage ? Soccer kicks or knees to head while head is stuck in corner could be real bad , paralyzing shit. I don’t trust commission refs that much to make sure a dudes neck isn’t in weird position and things happen too fast . Imagine Wand stomping on a dudes head pressed against cage ? Not a fan .
