IIRC Rumble round 1 was around +475 when they were scheduled to fight at UFC 206. I'm hoping we get that again here.

No chance imo. +300 seems more realistic. I hope you are right. Will be a big play for me if you are.

I could be remembering wrong, but I would swear it opened at least +400. I bet it at the time, but 5d isn't letting me go back that far to check. Also, when they fought at UFC 187 Rumble round 1 opened at +550. Fingers crossed for a nice line.

Found it. Just so you know I'm not crazy @mkess101 lol:

3u Weidman @ EVS - Love that line. Don't think Mousasi can stop the TD, goes similar to the king mo fight.

Respectfully disagree. Moose today =/= the moose who fought mo like.. 7 years ago..

Weidman also slowed down inexplicably against Romero after the first.

Try wrestling a silver medalist olympic wrestler who also is a stunt double for the incredible Hulk and see how you fare.

Moose is not as physically imposing as Romero, and certainly not in the same stratosphere 'rasslin wise. This is the same Mousasi who got ground out by Jacare, and who got taken down by Machida. I don't hold stock in wins over Hall, Belfort's ghost and Leites.

Long story short, this is weidmans smallest opponent in a while, and certainly the weakest wrestler in a long time. Whilst I think Weidman isn't what he used to be, I think Mousasi isn't on his level, or indeed top 5 in division. I'm going up to 5u on Weidman, if I'm wrong, so be it.

I like Weidman. Jacare scored multiple takedowns and submitted Mousasi. That was only 2 and a half years ago and Mousasi hasn't faced any strong grapplers since. In my opinion Mousasi only has a slight striking advantage (if any) over Weidman but Weidman has a clear grappling advantage.

agree to disagree.

i see two guys on opposite career trajectories. weidman coming off of getting KTFO brutally. he can't stay healthy. mousasi is the clear play for me near evens.

Also gotta disagree with you Ez. Never been sold on Mousasi as being a truly top 185er, and I think this will be another fight where he gets to his ceiling and falls back down.

How exactly do you think Mousasi wins? Avoiding the grappling, and edging the strikes? Will he be walking Weidman down? I just can't see how he wins.

I worry somewhat about Weidman having accumulated a fair amount of damage in his past two losses, but I don't think those two losses end his top-tier days. I had him winning the Romero fight before being crushed by the knee, and that's no easy task. I think he takes Mousasi down and kills a lot of time, wins the scorecards.

he lost rd 2 to romero, he was faltering prior to the KO in rd 3. even longo says he lost rd 2.

and yes, avoid grappling, win on the feet = the path for mousasi. as for "walking weidman down" -- idk, precisely. what i do think is: he will be throwing his jab in chris' face the entire time they're on the feet

Is Weidman gonna be comfortable shooting TDs after he got killed by Romero's knee after shooting for one? He may have a case of the yips, just another thing to consider imo.

I certainly think Mousasi has a path to victory, and will win if Weidman is stupid and doesnt grind him on ground, but both Rockhold and Romero couldn't stop Weidmans double leg, so I don't think Mousasi will be able to either. Mousasi also isn't known for his get up's (Hence why he sat on bottom against King Mo + Jacare), so I feel Weidman won't gas as hard as he did trying (unsuccessfully) to keep Rockhold and Romero down. Waiting for the Weidman Dec line to open so I can hit that too.

Oh yeah, I'm not disputing he lost the second round, but it was close and he was on his way to winning the third. Just got too predictable against a guy with nuclear power (which Mousasi has never had). I just don't think Moose stops the takedowns, nor does he easily out strike Weidman. I also don't think he'll suddenly be afraid of going to the takedowns (this is a guy who didn't bite on basically-prime Silva's clowning after all). Good point above about Weidman tiring after wrestling powerful guys like Rockhold and Romero.

I've already got my money down, but I'm always open to hearing alternative perspectives.

i really don't think a fight from 2010 is all that relevant, frankly

and i'm someone who thinks jacare is the best 185 on the planet, for the record

sorry, what? he got ko'd 24 seconds into the third...

Did he? Shit, my mistake then. I'll have to go back and rewatch it again anyhow. I thought it was a couple minutes in. Must be thinking of a different fight

Do agree that Jacare is likely the best 185er though.

Agree to disagree then, against Jacare he sat on the bottom exactly as he did against King Mo, and whilst Weidman doesn't possess Jacare's overall BJJ game, he certainly does have the takedowns and the smothering top game. Mousasi has always been known to check out a bit when he gets frustrated, and I see that continuing. Quite hard to show a recent example of when Mousasi has been controlled on the ground, but that's because he hasn't been fighting top level fighters, let alone top level grapplers.

This is a great point. Weidman was able to ground both of those behemoths, I don't see Moose stopping the TD. And his getups have never been good, he was always content to stay there and fight off of his back due to his confidence in his guard. None of his recent opponents have really offered him a chance to show whether he's improved his wrestling or not.

I think maybe momentum is being considered too strongly here. We have seen so many examples of people being too high on a winning streak and writing off the guy in the L column only to be reminded that styles make fights.

I think DC should have this after watching their first fight

DC has a mammoth chin and took rumbles best shots

Rumble shown 0 defensive grappling

Rumble also shown he has absolutely no heart and will definitely quit when the fight doesn't go his way

DC stoppage I'm saying
