UFC 210 PBP/Discussion

Weidman definitely lost a lot of face in that fight. It's pretty obvious he was looking for a way out, hoping to get a NC or DQ.

That said, the second knee was definitely illegal. If only they would totally scrap the hand-on-the-ground rule altogether. It's tough to really call it a "fight" when you can game the rules like that.

he wasn't touching the mat with his palm, it was definitely legal

As you know DC was my expert play for the night, he continues to be a profitable guy to bet on, only has that one L

Weidman continues to disappoint, he found a way to lose again, regardless if you agree with the outcome or not, a loss is a loss and I was on Weidman. He thought the knee was illegal and he tried to milk it, he probably thought he would have got a DQ win or at least a no contest. Weidman was gassing and Mousasi was coming on. I think Weidman is done being an elite 185er, 3 L's in a row now.

Man, I have to disagree. I just watched the fight for the first time there, and its Mousasi isn't coming on anywhere near as strong as some of the people in the thread made out. Just before the stoppage, Weidman had taken down mousasi, full mounted him, took his back, gotten reversed and then retook top position. Whilst Mousasi def did better than expected with his get ups, he got taken down at will, and I think that could have continued into the 3rd. If a rematch happens, I'm on Weidman again, no doubt.

Weidman dealt 0 damage from the top. And he was hurt badly in the second round

Still won the first round, and whilst I agree he was hurt, both guys were tired and I easily think Weidman could have survived and continued a takedown aggressive attack in the 3rd. Weidman was tired in 2nd, and still took Moose down with ease.

Moot point anyway, but I'll be playing Weidman next time, hopefully at improved odds.

After crunching some numbers and bulking up my bankroll, I considered UFC 210 as my semipro MMA betting debut. It went well. I had a small bet on Gonzalez, medium bets of Oliveira and Cormier and a big bet on Mousasi. I got +122% on money risked. I'll be back for 211.

You think Maia beats Mas?

small ww, vs huge ww (borderline mw) where the huge guy is on another planet in terms of grappling? masvidal would need to implement some sort of 'condit v diaz' type gameplan to survive takedowns from maia, and even then he'd need to hit and hurt maia badly early.

def not impossible, but i'd argue next to it, especially since it's only three rounds. maia sub seems very likely.

A lot of Masvidal's takedown defense is after the opponent has his hands on him and Masvidal fends it off. Maia will just get to his back in that situation. Masvidal would have to use footwork so that Maia can't even grab onto a leg.

Josh emmett hosed me down. I laid down a nice amount of cash when i saw him at -175.

#wildman plays are #wild for a reason.

Good stuff. I have no clue how I'm gonna play that fight at the moment but appreciate your input. I wanted to bet on Mas but I always seem to underestimate Maia and what he's capable of so I think I might be doing it again

Yeah I think Mas gets wrecked by Maia. Mas is really confident and flying high right now - maybe a bit too confident.

If I was Mas' coach I don't even know what I would tell him. It is near impossible to gameplan against a python. I guess yeah use footwork and don't let this guy even get a single hand on you. Circle out non-stop and use your jab.

i would argue nelson is a similar sized ww to mas, and it didn't end to well for nelson. and in this case the disparity in grappling will be even bigger. i just think mas will get cornered at some point, and from there next stop will be the floor with the humansized backpack on him.

Agree with everything. Plus Mas will be easy to livebet if he is defending tds or making Maia work to a point you have to be worried about him gassing by the third

I will be on Maia heavy but yeah if he can't find the TD early then I will switch to LB Mas. Also Mas finish in r2 and especially r3 propr will be worth a look.

One thing that will make it interesting is Mas will be looking for a finish. No point fighting for a decision.

Just watched this event. Came out unscathed but I feel for Weidman and Weidman bettors.

Overall, what a shitshow! I really hope the UFC can get it together because at this rate Bellator will be the biggest show in town within two years.

UFC 210 gave us:

Towelgate/scalegate
Implantgate
Kneegate
NCAA Crumble
Cringeworthy AJ retirement
DC WWE post-fight interview

yea, what a clusterfuck. and cote deciding before the fight that he'd retire, too.

Rumble's corner's transcript.
Round 1
Voice: Take your time. Nice. Take your time. Don’t take him down.

Hooft: Don’t wrestle him.

Voice: If you’re going to go, go single.

Hooft: You don’t have to wrestle him, AJ. Just relax.

Voice: Don’t wrestle him.

Hooft: Get out of there. Get out of there.

Grappling coach Neil Melanson: OK, stud. Now, let’s get your hands hot.

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?

Hooft: This is stupid.

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?

Hooft: (Expletive) it, man. Just get off the cage.

Voice: Get out of there.

Voice: Why isn’t he listening?

(Johnson and Cormier are broken up by referee John McCarthy, and Johnson lands kicks.)

Voice: He’s tired already, DC. He doesn’t need to do this.

Voice: Why isn’t he listening?

Hooft: I don’t know why he’s doing that. We have no (expletive) eyes.

Break between Round 1 and Round 2
Hooft: Can you tell me why you’re wrestling? Now, you’re not going to wrestle. You take your distance. Stay away, two steps away. Why are you so worried about everything? The kicks and the knees are really good, but no kicks. Where’s your hands?

Voice: You’re doing great. Don’t (expletive) wrestle him.

Hooft: If you stand your distance, it’s an easy game. Why make it difficult?

Round 2
Hooft: Movement. Athletic. Movement. That’s it. Take your distance.

(Johnson reverses against the cage and goes for another takedown)

Hooft: You need distance.

Hooft: I’m not saying nothing.

(Cormier has Johnson on the mat and is setting up a choke)

Hooft: It’s going the same as last time.

(Johnson submits to Cormier via rear-naked choke)

Hooft: Why, why the (expletive) does this happen every (expletive) time, man? Crazy.
