UFC 214 PBP/Discussion

He was upset. He had been talked to by his corner. He wanted to go talk to Jon. This was like 5 minutes after it was stopped. He went to participate in the announcement and Jon hand raising. And in the heat of the moment he pushed John McCarthy away. I'm not saying fine him. I'm saying it wasn't a good look. It happens. But we don't need to defend everything a fighter does.

I'm a big DC fan. But he has a bad habit of letting himself go when he loses. It's not a good look and even if we like a fighter we shouldn't condone it. If Jones would have done it he'd have gotten flamed.

It was not a concussion or out of body experience. It was a guy pissed he lost and upon cooling off he basically admitted as much

So fight of the night goes to Ortega/Moicano. Volkan (obviously) & Jones get the performance bonuses. Thank christ my O3.5 decisions event prop hit to limit the damage a bit. Taken a right pasting these last couple of cards.

Glad that you had a good time buddy. Hope you made a lot of memories. And yeah, I cannot stand when fighters are bowed after fighting their ass off. You want to boo Tyrone Woodley after his performanc? Sure you paid hundreds of dollars for the ticket so voice your displeasure here. But when guys like Robbie Lawler and cowboy throwdown in an epic battle leaving everything they have in the middle of the cage and you boo because your guy didn't win, well that is just juvenile.

Then again we are out of the country that elected Donald Trump.

Sorry, didn't mean to bring up politics, I know that hurt so all the people in the feels.
Thanks man, and yeah completely agree. I mean I understand most of the time it's directed at the judges but it ends up inevitably getting taken out the fighters who do nothing but fight their hearts out

So i guess volkans got that weird ko power huh? I wanna say flukey but you cant really say that anymore its just bizzare. Im still pissed about it i guess bc it cost me 10u...had manuwa in some parlays

I would like to see volkan vs cannonier or volkan vs cutelaba i know the second one is unlikely but i love cutelaba and i think he could survive the 2inch punches of doom lol

100% win rate for this event. Good job bois.

I came out about even, no thanks to Fili and Manuwa.

I think Ozedemir is my new least favourite fighter ever.

I love Oezdemir, but I still don't know if he's actually good. Maybe he'll fight Jones next and switch his lights off 10 seconds into the first.

Ah yes, the "finish" determines domination. So, Silva dominated Sonnen in their first match, got it.

You sound upset, he secured a dominant finish over another incredible fighter. Didn't know that would rustle you up, apologies if it does.

Almost got completely buried on that one if it wasn't for Lamas.

I don't know man. I can't say what was in his heart. I just know taking neurological damage and then having the ability to make rational decisions is not easy. I mean, JBJ literally fried his brain. I know that there have been studies that demonstrate TBI has led to poor impulse control and violent behavior. That a TBI patient with frontal lobe damage will react impulsively and even aggressively.
Joe said DC didn't know where he was when he got up. Dana said at the press conference that he didn't even know he was knocked out.

Read up on TBI and impulse control

On the other hand, you could be exactly right. He just simply might not have been able to take the loss mentally and went complete Paul Daley mode. Did he even embrace Jones after the contest? Like knowledge him in anyway? I know that Jones came over to try and make a gesture of goodwill, I'm just not remembering if DC even looked at him.

And for the record, I would be defending John Jones 100% if he acted like this. I know that the majority of MMA fans would flame the shit out of him, but I have no problem with him, and hope that he he gets his life back together.

It's just speculation on my part you may very well be correct.

Last 3 fights were a big deal for me. Went super heavy on Jones ML, thought he might finish in rds 4 or 5, ended up betting DEC and Over small-medium. Had Woodley ML super heavy, light on Maia rd 1/2 and Woodley DEC. Main bet in the Cyborg fight was the Over, went medium on that. Lamas earlier n the night was a huge deal, won every bet except Knight SUB. Ended up losing on Lawler since most of my money on him was ITD. Carneiro fucked up. Barao is washed up. Lost all my bets on Manuwa fight except the Under. Lost all bets on Dober fight. Got robbed on Shelton. Slight profit on Curran fght as the Over was my main play. Overall, great night but feel I should have done better.

Travis Browne made me take out the Robalo for a couple weeks to clear my mind and I came back stronger. Will be gone for a while again, good luck on your future bets and I hope DC is ok cause that was sad af.

This sums it up. He was mad he lost.

You have obviously never been badly concussed before my dude.

For the record, I don't think this an "either or" situation with DC.

I think he took the loss INCREDIBLY hard. I think he was more invested emotionally in that fight than almost anyone I can ever remember in my almost 20 years of following MMA. I think he looked like the best version of him we've seen. He was doing well, landing but fighting a much more calm fight. I haven't seen the scorecards but I'm guessing judging was close after 2 rds. I think he knew he had more in the tank this time to go 5 rounds at his pace. The fight was playing out as he envisioned it to a degree. And then...boom. Everything he poured his heart and soul into when it comes to fighting came crashing down around him. Not only losing again, but this time seeing his previously invincible chin cracked. Having to be told what happened. THE legacy fight of his career and in an instant it's over. For a guy wired like DC, it was too much to handle. AND...

@MMA Goodfella is also correct. You start adding in that his brain had just been short circuited and it most likely is a big force multiplier for everything I just said. They are cutting open the brains of former football players and finding all this CTS stuff in most of them. Obviously the science is in its early stages in terms of what conclusions can be drawn, but you cannot tell me that having your brain suffer that kind of trauma (and make no mistake, that was a BRUTAL knockout where DC took probably 2-3 more shots flush to the side of his head than were needed) and then 4 minutes later it has no effect on you.

So the short version is that yes, DC is super emotional and handled the loss way more poorly than almost anyone else would have. But no way do I believe we'd have seen that type of reaction had he lost another clear cut decision. The brutal KO absolutely played a role in him having that reaction.
