Ah gotcha, yeah man I see the clock on the board go down to a couple minutes and i take a horse at say, 8-1, next thing you know at post it's down to like 3-1 at the last sec. And the racebooks will cut me off early so I can't do anything about it anyway. Frustrating sometimes but now that you explain it it makes more sense.Yeah, it's tough, Blunt. Odds can change so much even in the last 30 seconds before a race starts. Those making a sizable bet compared to the pool size usually get it in early so as to scare off others by dropping the odds way down. Or they'll get it in at the very last second. The biggest factor is probably those computer wagering programs, though. A ton of money comes in late via those things. Those are programmed to look for overlayed horses and bet them automatically at the very last second before the race starts. That race there had $31,000 in the win pool by the time the race started, and $8,000 of that came in during the last seconds before the race. At bigger tracks those computer wagering programs don't effect the odds that much late, but they can change it quite a bit at these smaller tracks.
A good way to check what kind of odds your going to get on a horse you're interested in is to check the multi-race payouts, particularly the doubles. 9.5 times out of 10 the favourite in doubles will also be the favourite during the race you're planning to bet.
Thanks for that tip btw, that should help a lot. Obv I'm still a rookie with this stuff which I've realized I don't know shit, lol. But I'm trying to learn. Also do you have a link to free pp's that I can use? The one that I have seems to be blocked by brisnet or something.
