UFC 236 Holloway vs Poirier 2

Telegraphed takedowns are fine against Millender he cant defend at all. Alves took him down shooting a mile out. Siyar Griffin and Zaleski took him down no problem too. Belal has better MMA wrestling than all four and he uses it in all his fights unlike the four mentioned, who are normally out and out strikers. Millender has no get up game and when he does try gives his back up way too easily. Zaleski and the chap in Bellator who rnc him basically got the choke as soon as they got their hooks in. Belal is pretty good at taking the back too. Of course on the feet advantage Millender but i think at near evens im happy having my money on Belal albeit i cant go big.

Ps all belals tds are fairly telegraphed he normally shoots from pretty far out and is good at finishing against the fence. Its worked well for him against the mid level comp hes generally faced in the ufc and millender is another id class as mid level.

I don't think he'll comfortably be able to get into range without telegraphing the takedown from a mile away. Even if he does, I don't view his ground game as dangerous. Millender is a guy you want to finish, not look to take a decision from.

Zero faith in millender after last fight. Millender looked completely lost on the ground. If he was taken down and controlled by Zaleski, I don’t see any reason to bet on him against a more accomplished grappler.

I do like Jouban in this fight but I’m a little skeptical. He handled Saunders range no problem but got wrecked up by Price right hand. Price is a much better fighter then Saunders but Grant being green he could have improved a lot and who knows how Jouban will show up. Not a bad bet but curious to see how the line shifts. The Range with Grant might be a problem
Grant fought like two weeks ago brah I don't think he improved much in that time lol

Idk every fight you improve and find holes in you game to improve on. He’s only had 11 pro fights and he fought last at the end of February. A month in the gym after a fight can do a lot I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he clips a jouban

He can defo clip Jouban but its very unlikely he is going to show any improvement especially in such a small space of time. Real difficult to improve as you move into your 30s and hes mid 30s.

Hey we agree.

Jouban at evens against Dwight Grant-- How is this a line? Yeah Grant just got a cool knockout but Jouban is so much more experienced they're giving him too much too quickly.

I get what your saying, just going back to where the conversation started I wouldn’t consider this at even odds an easy bet. I’d wait to see how the line changes before I’d make a pick I think it will be a close fight

It's gonna be one of those fights where Jouban will always be ahead on points but could get KOed at any second.

I know i of all people have zero right to say this but here goes ....

Holy shit this place is going downhill fast

Not really true. Every time Millender was taken down in his last two fights, it occurred when he came forward and threw strikes. He has a problem with recovery and balance, but when an opponent shoots from range with no set-up, he defends fine.

And yet, Millender defeated 3 of those 4 guys. Clearly, the simple act of taking Millender down is not the end-all, be-all in beating him.

More relevantly, while Alves, Griffin, and Bahadurzada might have slightly worse wrestling than Muhammad, they're also far more dangerous on the feet, with far more powerful, technical punches. You might be surprised to see Muhammad have the same level of success as those previous fighters, or even less, simply because Millender doesn't have to worry about being hurt by his punches.

I can understand betting Muhammad at plus odds, but at plus odds the other way, I'm happy going with Millender.

I like jalin turners striking quite a bit.

My concern here is frevola taking him down and tapping him. Jalin is a Carlson Gracie purple belt. Frevola trains at Serra longo so he’s also a Gracie jiu jitsu player.

He’s a wild man and he looks like he’s been improving his standup. He does get touched and he’s going to have to eat some turner punches to get into take down range

Frevola also should have a cardio advantage as well

I think slightly worse wrestling is an understatement. Alves, Griffin and Siyar are all quite poor wrestlers and even worse at blending their wrestling and striking together. Belal meanwhile is pretty damn good at masking his shots with his striking and vise versa. The fact Millender beat three of those opponents means very little IMO as none of them looked to implement a grappling heavy gameplan, yet still won clear rounds when they actually attempted to grapple. Shit Siyar could've won rd3 if he wasn't completely gassed. Millender's get-ups are laughably bad, as long as Belal can avoid a big shot coming in, he only needs one td per round. I wouldn't rule out a sub either given how easily Millender can have his back taken.

It’s hard to improve in back to back fight camps. Improvements really come during regular training not camps. The camps are really designed to sharpen the weapons you already have not learning new stuff.

Alves isn't much of an offensive wrestler, especially nowadays, but Griffin and Bahadurzada? Their wrestling is decent and they have beaten and controlled UFC-caliber opposition with it. They used some effective set-ups against Millender, too.

Calling them "poor" is an exaggeration unless you're claiming that there are about 4 decent wrestlers at 170 and 2 good ones.

Examples? Against Neal, for instance, he simply shot in from long distance with zero set-up.

You can argue the same thing about Muhammad's approach towards Neal. (A fight where a good deal of the forum was betting on Muhammad because of he was going to beat Neal with his wrestling)

You're also oversimplifying what happened in all 3 of those fights.

What evidence is there of him being "completely gassed" considering he continually threw powerful strikes and tried to grapple? Bahadurzada was no more "gassed" than Muhammaed was "gassed" against Neal in round 3. Rather, both guys were stunned and hurt at times.

Am I missing something here? Was my post that bad?
Every time you step in the gym you improve. It’s not like he’s 50yrs old
