Betting Questions

When it comes to betting with units what is a good starting point for an initial outlay?

Say for example I start off with $100.00. Just to practice with, obviously not expecting any noticeable profits. Do I then make one unit $1.00? How do I choose one units value, is it based on size of starting bank roll, is it percentage based?

If I bet 10 dollars on a 4/1 odds match up, and win, do I get my initial stake back and my winnings of 40 dollars so a total of 50 comes back to me. Or does on my the 'winnings' come to me, of this case 40 dollars?

I have to say it is 3 am, I have taken valium and smoked weed and I am not 100% sure this will make sense.

Units are often 1% of one's bankroll, and I always suggest people compound their units. This could mean your unit size changes every event, or you could wait to change it at certain milestones, $150/$1.50, $200/$2.00 etc. With a smaller bankroll you may want to be more liberal, using 2% as 1 unit for example. Though if you're just starting out you'll want tiny units while you learn.

Stake is returned on every winning bet.

Much appreciated

If one places a bet on a certain fight outcome and then places another bet as a hedge, is this not effectively the same thing as merely wagering less on the original bet with no hedge?

It all depends on the odds that you're getting. Hedging is a debatable practice in general, but the math has to work out for it to make sense at all. Commonly, people will bet the moneyline for one fighter, then hedge with a prop on the other fighter.

For example, let's say you placed a $150 moneyline bet on Michael Johnson at -150 and you felt Emmett could only win the fight by knockout. You could "hedge" your bet by placing $26 on Emmett by KO/TKO at +575. This way, if Johnson wins you end up with $74 profit and if Emmett wins by KO/TKO, you break even. The danger is that Emmett wins by another method, in which case both bets lose.

Another common scenario when you'll see people hedge, is when there's big line movement. If you bought in on a fighter at +150 and they're now -200, you may want to hedge or "freeroll" your bet.

That makes sense. Thank you for the nice explanation.

Have anyone try a bob casino bonus online? Recently started gambling, thinking to start read information about spin there. Maybe I'll get some luck.

I'm curious, why did you recently start gambling yet choose a casino? the longer you play casino games the more chance you will lose. most ppl here don't play casino games as its negative value. we mainly focus on mma betting because there is a lot of line errors that are hard for the bookmakers to price out of the lines due to the niche aspect of the sport and the subjective nature of analyzing and scoring mma too.

DSI may have the worst rollover requirements of any book I've ever used. I think it's 25x the deposit + bonus, with many restrictions. Livebet doesn't count towards rollover and I believe only some sports with specific odd requirements apply to it. Don't expect to be able to withdraw that money for a long time if you accept the bonus.

What general rules do you have for betting MMA?

For example:
Fighters over 34 tend to be significantly slower and have less explosiveness than those under 30. Dagestani wrestling credentials can do the same, and Olympic/Commonwealth credentials also count
Strong American wrestling credentials (particularly collegiate) are generally the biggest indicator of success
Fighters tend not to improve without an extended layoff - Once a fighter displays a weakness, it's there forever
Fighters with cardio issues will always have cardio issues
Fighters with low fight IQ will lose to anyone who is a specialist in their area of weakness, even if they have their own clear path to victory
Blindly bet all Nigerian fighters
Once a fighter's chin is gone, they don't get it back (unless they're Andre Arlovski)
Where all things are equal, athleticism is the deciding factor
Once a fighter who has been around for a long time starts talking about retirement, they're done
Fighters will undersell their injuries - without 3+ months between injury and fight, the injury will still significantly affect them
Fighters who just had a baby win fights
Fighters who haven't had the amount of time to train that they're used to will perform worse than usual - Athleticism is not an equaliser
What a fighter looks like at the weigh in means a whole load of fuck all
Fighter motivation in interviews means a whole load of fuck all
Fighters who rely on athleticism decline faster than fat fucks unless the athletic fighters make clear technical adjustments or are on whatever Yoel Romero is taking
Shot/slow fighters may mask their declines against other shot/slow fighters
Blindly fade Astra Fight Team
Blindly fade Xtreme Couture unless fighting a team that is clearly worse (Astra Fight Team, European fight teams) or fighter is exceptional talent that would shine anywhere
Chin issues tend to go away up a weight class, and present themselves when dropping one
Fighters renowned for their pace at lower weight classes don't succeed at higher weight classes, power strikers/wrestlers do

Hi guys,

Currently developing a new sports gaming app as part of a college assignment and would be grateful for any feedback on fantasy sports. American laws are a bit of a mess and interested in how everyone is betting as part of the market research. Personally I used to parlay on fight nights but the odds have been terrible since the UFC was sold with weird matchmaking. Dabbled a bit with Draft Kings and had enjoyed that after having a top 10 finish though I rarely finish anywhere close to that now. Any feedback on how you bet in the USA would be great - thanks!

Hello, I'm new here and to MMA. What's a good way to learn about MMA/UFC, particularly from a betting point of view? Which websites are good? Which YouTube channels are best? Thanks.

Kind of embarrassed to admit I don’t know this, but is the payout on a parlay affected by the chronological order of the fights? If one of the legs is a huge favorite, does it pay more if the big favorite is the last leg compared to the first leg?

No, and there is no magic to a parlay. Quite simply, it's a straight bet where the winnings are rolled over to the next leg.

Correct. I laugh every time I see someone say that a chalk play has no value straight but it's ok to put it in a parlay.
