The Trenches, Ep. 36 Poll: Do the losses for Northcutt/Alvarez show the strength of other orgs?

Do the debut losses of Alvarez and Northcutt in One show the strength of talent outside the UFC?

Should more guys take the Robbie Lawler approach of "standing their ground" when the opponent they desire to fight pulls out? It's a high risk situation that pays off and sometimes doesn't pay off. Conor took the Mendes fight and became a star because he won. Frankie took the fight vs Ortega and took almost 1.5 years to get his TS because of the loss

* M-1 has turned into a feeder-org for the UFC. Wow, what a poetic ending considering their storied relationship. As a result of this, the UFC has been flooded with ultra-prospects like Alexey Kunchenko, Movsar Evloev, Bruno Silva, Khadis Ibragimov and possibly Nate Landwehr. Which one of these do you think could go the farthest and which are you more excited for?

Alternatively:

M-1 has turned into a feeder-org for the UFC. Wow, what a poetic ending considering their storied relationship. Does anyone remember when Finkelstein wanted the UFC to build arenas in Russia as a condition for them to co-promote? Anyways, do you have any fallen smaller orgs that you personally favourited (ie: Not Pride!). Personally, I was introduced to MMA through the IFL, go New York Pitbulls!

Who is the next young hot prospect to take the internet by storm...

best "brawler" you see being champ ? like perry, lineker or gaethje ? people label them as brawlers and act like they arent champ worthy.

i butchered lineker's name i think

I haven't seen many fighters in top position, while in the guard, throwing elbows to the sternum, ribs, or chest. (Not a 12/6 elbow). Although they do throw elbows to the head, is this due to unified rules, or another reason?

ONE FC crazy-talk time!!!

Chatri has decided to overule the Petrosyan vs Petchyindee decision to a No Contest. The reason being that the ref couldn't keep all the illegal clinching under control. Tournament-favorite Petrosyan will now get a rematch vs the Thai boxer and so have another chance at winning the 1 milion dollar Tournament. Even though Christian Lee's frequent and fight-changing rope-grabs result in no such infraction like this, at all!

EDIT: In response, Petchyindee's gym has threatened to withdraw their fighter since with a precedence like this, they can never be sure that a win is really a "win".

Should promotors even have the ability to do this?

Is there any word on in the UFC are trying to make Cyborg vs Fee for Edmonton?

Thank you.

I picked the Third option cuz steroids.

Not that they aren't going on in the UFC, it's just that people have to be more sparse and careful with them.

I won't deny, this was a tough question to word, since there are a lot of potential answers that can come from it. When we discuss it on the show itself, I hope people chime in.

To add to that, UFC veterans have also been having a tough time in Bellator, PFL, ACA, etc. It goes far beyond just ONE.

Right, and Yushin Okami got smoked too in One. There are so many factors, it's hard to pin it down, which leads to a great discussion. I mean on paper, Sage vs. Cosmo was a stupid matchup, look at the experience and level of competition and size and style. It led to Sage's face getting ground into powder.

I am absolutely positive that this showcases the strength of other organizations.
ONE is making moves, half a year ago it was impossible to watch ONE events live in Austria, now it works.

I like it and the whole MMA community should like it. Hope ONE can gain some traction worldwide and shake up the sport.

I still remember when Cosmo got outstruck and outhustled in his Bellator debut vs Josh Quayhagen of all people (who was also making his MMA debut).

How things change.

It shows there are good fighters outside the UFC. Personally, I think ONE puts on better shows, but supposedly they arent making any money.
