With a 3-1 record in his last four, should Elias Theodorou have been cut from the UFC?

He wasn’t a needle mover and got the axe. Is normal.

This guy doesn't matter this much....

Yes. Just like boring Jared Rosholt was cut with no fuss at all. He beat better guys than Theodorou.

I'd feel embarrassed if I introduced a friend to MMA, and Elias vs. Brunson was the first fight they saw.

Good cut.

Says you.

Fighters are supposed to be either entertaining or technical, Elias is neither. Good riddance.

Fuck Theoboro. He needs to find another career. He ain't cut out for this fighting thing

This seems like a very obvious question.

He wasn't good enough at being a UFC fighter.

"wasn't good enough" but he won 3 of his last 4. Just leave it saying "wasn't entertaining"

I can find almost any style of MMA fighter entertaining but I can't with Elias. He doesn't try to finish, it's like watching a flag football version of MMA.

8-3 in the UFC, won TUF Nations, with only losses to Thiago Santos, Brad Tavares and Derek Brunson. Hard to say that when you compare his record to other fighters on the roster, he was a top-15 guy going into the Brunson fight if I remember correctly. Just a lot of decisions that weren't special.

He fought to not fight..... that is a bannable offense. Not only should he have been cut but he should be blackballed from all mma. And forced to shave his head.

Hes Canadian and he had Canadian's actively rooting against him. Nuff said

He was a good enough MMA fighter.
But he wasn't a good enough UFC fighter.

The point is we know that the UFC isn't a meritocracy (At least not in the way that sports fans imagine it should be) we know that they value more than just winning.
If the question is just SHOULD they only value winning, that's different. But the reality is we know they don't, so these discussions always come off strange to me and the counter points ring somewhat hollow.

He was good at MMA. He wasn't good enough or valuable enough as a UFC fighter for them to continue to invest in him. It seems like a no brainer imho.

Normally I disagree with these kind of cuts but man he is like exceptionally boring

11 fights not one bonus do the math..

I'm happy we won't keep seeing him in ads as some emblem of Canadian MMA success. Guy was awful.

But an honest organization would have given him some tough matchups and phased him out after a few losses. We know the UFC is an entertaining business more than a sporting one so the cut isn't a surprise, but that doesn't mean it won't get squeezed into the overflowing drawer of evidence that the org is full of shit.
