I think the answer is yes, but if I change my username temporarily, can I change it back to the original in the future?

Also, if I change my username, do I lose my claim on my original name? Can someone else take that name while I have my name changed? I.e., if I change it from Violent Violin, can someone take the name Violent Violin while I have it changed?

im pretty sure once a name is no longer in use, it is up for grabs.

so as long as no one else has snatched it up, sure you can go back to the old name.

Yes to both: you can change your name back to the original in the future, but it is possible for another user to take the username (though it's unlikely to happen).

Now, if someone takes another poster's username simply to mock the other user then that would be handled differently.

Figuratively forever perhaps but 23 April should be (literally) 6 months time-in-community if you'd purchased the Platinum from day one of account registration. We appreciate your patience.

Change of username is a feature afforded Platinum membership so essentially, yes. You'll also need be uncarded at time of change and have six months time-in-community; the minimum post threshold – last criterion for change, is something you'll have met by then if your current count is anything to go by.
