How good was Fedor?

He should be. And the usuall is discussion is a bit outdated and needs an upgrade

No, he shouldn't. No matter which metric of greatness you pick, DC isn't top in any of them. He's not the greatest at LHW. He's not the greatest at HW. So how can he be the greatest overall? What has he done that no one else has? What record or singular achievement does he hold?

He is really good tauted as the Goat

I dont consider him goat but he is regarded as one by a lot of people he is really tjat good.

Stipe wasn’t even in competitive mma then. If Fedor had any balls he’d come take his beating from Stipe in the big leagues.
pssh big leagues bunch of pussies who cant hang in the 10 min first rd

You’re trying to redirect but I’ll bite. Stipe has elite HW cardio and Fedor has been known to slow down. A 10 min round wouldn’t be a problem for Stipe because 1. He has a great gas tank and 2. He’d sleep Fedor in the 1st couple minutes thus not even reaching a 10 min rd.

DCs resume is quit amazing. For the people who don’t consider Jon the best LHW because of PEDs, he’s the best LHW ever. He is only one of 2 UFC two divisional champions who have defended the title in both weight classes. He is also Strikeforce HW tournament champion and Olympian. He has only lost to Jones and is 1-1 with Stipe, UFC HW GOAT. Guys he beat:

Stipe
Rumble x2
Barnett
Hendo
Gus
Big Foot
Anderson
Mir
Roy Nelson
Volkan
Lewis

He definitely should be in GOAT discussion . He has dominanted very high level opponents and only lost to GOATs

No. He was not known for that.
I may have misspoke. Although I will say It is much easier to keep your cardio when you’re fighting a MW or a can which comprised 1/2 of Fedor’s opponents.

Yeah like training for fights is not the part o milage. 90% of the people in this thread believe Fedor is the goat I'll stick with them
This.
Spend your whole life sparring fucking Aleks Emelianenko, without headgear,on a dilapidated playground in Russia and let me know how your chin turns out :)
Aside from training, age and big damage in the Bigfoot fight fucked Fedor’s chin pretty good. But he has other mileage too; he’s done judo and sambo basically his whole life.

DC and Yoel had Olympic wrestling careers and still are beasts in their 40’s. Or it doesn’t count either?

That’s Fedor stupidity to spar without headgear, he shouldn’t be praised for that. Big Foot fight? Yeah Fedor probably wasn’t the same man after his SF run, but we are talking about the mileage before that. He really didn’t have that many

It may be true that Fedor was so tough because he fought off his brother rapist.

Ngannou’s never been finished. The only who could get knocked out quickly is Fedor. Ngannou is way more technical as a boxer, a lot bigger and more powerful. I don’t even think Fedor is faster or more explosive. Francis is an athletic freak
Ngannou more technical? This is way, way inaccurate. I’d worry about Fedor getting his head knocked off of course, but prime Fedor is far more technical of a striker. Someone else in this thread called prime Fedor a “sloppy brawler,” and this is just incredibly WRONG.
Anyone who is trying to understand why Fedor is great, and has not read these, needs to do so IMMEDIATELY. Some of the gifs are sadly gone, but it’s still very worth anyone’s time.

No, just no. He’s admittedly scared of Ngannou and was beat clean by Jones in the 1st fight and slept by Stipe despite blatant eye pokes.

What? Now you’re going to base your arguments on who you think is scared to fight who? How about Fedor and Obereem? Fedor ducked him, Stipe beat him. End of discussion?

Technique is the one thing that doesn’t go away with age, speed and explosiveness does. Looked at Anderson vs Izzy. That’s technique.

Francis started as a boxer. His hands are very good. He KO’ed great strikers like Arlovski, JDS and Overeem. And those weren’t just wild haymakers, he landed clean beautiful shots. That uppercut on Reem is one of the best shots ever

I wasn’t praising him for it, just stating the fact. From the little I’ve seen, I wouldn’t say they went full blast. But Jesus, they def still hit each other. How many times did this happen to both of them over the years? I’d assume Fedor gets blasted at times too, although in the video I took this from, poor Aleks gets the worst.

Yoel and DC: are they still beasts though? DC threw his back out when he sneezed not that long ago. I think he’s def declining, although still very good. He has a lot of wrestling mileage, and I think his wrestling has in fact declined. As far as chin and such, he started MMA late; he’s got prob 25 fights on his record now, which is quite a bit; Fedor has damn near double.
Yoel didn’t look great against Costa, and looked like shit against Izzy. But let’s be honest, that dude is a pretty clear PED cheat.

Its part of watching sport. Go to a bar during an NFL game, and you'll hear lot's of people saying they're better than one (or sometimes both) of the quarterbacks, and the only reason say Tom Brady looks good is because has a good offensive line in front of them. And they should know, because they played high school football, which is at least as good as the NFL.

Most of Fedor's critics (and GSP's, and Anderson's, and Jones') think they could beat Fedor (or GSP, or Anderson, or Jones) themselves. That's the bottom line for most claims of 'overrated' whether its a fan watching MMA or the NFL. And its a safe thing to believe, because they're never going to get into the ring with Fedor, or into an NFL game, so they'll never be proven wrong.
Do you have a single quote from someone saying they could beat fedor, gap, Anderson or jones?

DC admitted he didn’t want any piece of Ngannou, who’s not even a a champ. GOATs don’t do that. GOATS blast Ngannou and make him look like an amateur.

Sparring without headgear mostly exposes you to superficial wounds. It doesn’t protect your brain. Everyone takes shots sparring.

I get your point, but what else do you call it when a fighter ceases to use fundamentals as they get older? I’m not an expert. But both Reem and Fedor have ceased to use certain fundamentals. Fedor has developed some troubling holes in his game as he’s aged, that he didn’t have in his prime. Bad coaching? I dunno, as he’s worked with the same striking coach his whole life, except for the addition of Peter Teijsse which happened somewhere around the Strikeforce run. But I actually think Fedor looks and performs better when he trains with Teijsse, so I wouldn’t think he’s a cause. But I have no way to say. For whatever reason, Fedor has a whole arsenal of tools that he almost never utilizes anymore in his older age. It’s sad and unfortunate.
