Okay, so my brain is incredibly small and I need you sherbros to help me out.

I deposited $500 USD into a betting website. That means $500 came out of my bank account.

I bet $500 on Dustin, Perry, and Allen to win $782.

My brother messages me and says he will buy $250 of my $500 bet.

My brother also owes me $250 for a computer desk I bought him.

My brother NEVER sends me $250 for half of the $500 bet.

We win the bet.

My brother thinks I owe him $141 which would be 1282 / 2 - 500 (the money he owes me for bet and table) = $141.

Isn't he only entitled to half of the winnings and not half of the total amount of money? So it should be 782/2 = 391 - 250 = 141 - 250 for the computer table = -109?

What am I missing? Why do I feel like I got scammed.

Please help.

You won 782 profit yes. So half of that is 391 in profit. Which would be his if he had made that bet for 250 at the same odds. Thats the profit of his. Yes he´s only entittled to his amount not the full amount. That would cut into your profits.

So he should get 391 as thats the pure profit from his bet, you obviously keep the 250 from his bet. Then he owes you 250 for the table yes. So now he should get 141 this is correct. Everything else is yours.

In your calculation you´re missing the return money, or 250 to be exact.
So he´s right $141 is his. Yes.

However he didn´t send you the money you said. Now he comes to you after you won the bet? Do you think he´d had come to you if you had lost? Think about that. Its your call what you do.

Your brother is correct. Think of it this way. He bets $250 and wins $391, the total return being $641 because the bettor also gets his stake back. Except he never sent you the money, so you keep the $250 and he only gets the $391 minus $250 for the table which is $141.

You are right in thinking that he only gets half of the winnings, but that $391 IS half of the winnings - you are already keeping the stake. The total return is $1282, of which $391 is his (minus the $250 he owed you).

Edit: I was too slow, FimbulFightPicks beat me to it.

Thanks buddy. My cousin actually lit my dumbass up -- he said "look at it this way -- if he gives you the $500 he owes you right now, and you split the $1282 down the middle which is $641 each, that's $141 more than he gave you to pay the debts."

I'm SO dumb.

Thanks again.

Thanks anyway Krieg, I appreciate it. The good news is we won the parlay, but it was a stressful one to win.
