Gilbert Burns is going to absolutely destroy Kamaru Usman

Their striking looks close enough for neither guy to have a big edge there imo. Gilbert never did anything that would warrant him being called an elite striker like I've seen some people do on here, he dropped Maia with a nice hook and beat up an old Tyron, I don't see anything that makes me feel he will dominate the striking.

That left hook he hit Maia with is probably the best left hook in UFC history.

I see no scenario where Usman can beat Burns. I have not felt this confident about a title fight in a long time.

If Usman takes him down, he will be submitted. Gilbert is way too dangerous on the mat for Usman to do what he did to Tyron with. If he stands with him, he will get hurt. Gilbert clearly is much better with his hands, and much better in the clinch.

I literally see no path to victory for Usman here. The man is done for.

Anyone see what path to victory Usman has here? Burns seems like the worst match up possible for him in the division.
Nah mate, Usman takes this easily. You got to remember Usman also absolutely dominated Woodley.

I was pretty confident in Usman until he switched camps abruptly. Now it makes me feel like something happened.

I still would pick Usman but I’m more hesitant than before.

He didn't switch because they were both in the same camp?

Usman can push a much faster pace, put him against the fence or take him down when he wants to. He should be able to outwork him. Not saying that will happen as Burns has good striking, but to me Usman has the clearest path to victory. He isn't going to kickbox from range for 5 rounds.

This is going to be a great thread to come back to in 8 days. Burns isn't going to come remotely close to "destroying" Usman. At best, he wins by sneaking in a submission or even less likely, a close score on the cards.

But more likely, he's the one that gets obliterated for 5 rounds.

This is a tough fight for both guys. I don’t see a domination from either side but if someone does end up getting destroyed, i will be very impressed with whoever is the hammer.

I would also like to point out to you TS, submitting someone from your back is very hard to do at this level. Last time it happened in a title fight was Pettis/Bendo.

It's way easier to learn sub defense than sub offense. I have a feeling the people who say shit like "Burns will easily submit Usman off his back" don't know shit about bjj.
Ferguson vs Lee

Then I'll eat my crow but I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

Usman is getting dropped hard in this fight. Probably in round 1. He will be finished within 3.

People underestimating Usman and overestimating Gilbert big time because they don't like Usman. Usman will win by UD.

Burns is the most dangerous BJJ guy on the roster.

Usman will not want to be on top of him for 25 minutes, there will be far too many submission threats. He could very well get submitted if he gets complacent.

IMO Rodolfo Viera is the most dangerous BJJ guy but what so i know

Nothing I've seen from Burns lets me think that he has a shot against Usman.

I think Usmans best tactic will be wall and stall. And definitely wrestling. Everyone thinks burn's jits is too dangerous, but ask any bjj expert, they hate being wrestle fucked. A good wrester with decent sub defense can often neutralize bjj, for sure if he's on top. Look for Usman to take Burns down when his stand up is not working.

Burns is far from being the most dangerous BJJ guy on the roster, he had an entire round to work on top of a rocked Woodley and didn't even come close to a sub attempt, there are guys like Ortega or Hall, who will literally tap you in seconds the moment you engage them. He is not on Maia's level in terms of dominating everyone on the ground, and doesn't have the size and wrestling for it either, especially not against Usman. He likely gets controlled against the cage and doesn't get to use his jiu jitsu

He appears to hit a lot harder then Usman that's for sure. Usman might be in trouble if he tries to K1 Burns. He is going to have to mix in wrestling despite Gilbert's BJJ

Usman is a bigger dude, championship pedigree, endless gas tank. Striking is suspect but he hits hard enough to break jaws and crumple folks.

While Usman may not have big power he does generally throw more volume than burns does and his striking appears to be used to wear people down in a "death by a thousand cuts" sorta way. I could see Usman winning a decision with volume and cage work, but I favor Gilbert.

I will have to go with Usman right now. A) I don't think anybody has been able to take him down in the ufc. Correct me if i'm wrong. B) he looked pretty good in the stand up against covington. I also don't think he wants to grapple on the ground with Burns so I could see this being a stand up fight with the exception of last 30s attempts of each round. I also don't think burns is going to try to take him down because its going to burn lot of energy.

So it then becomes, who's going to outstrike the other. Usman isn't a KO artist so to speak. I mean he can..but he's a point fighter on the feet for the most part. He's going to take his time and throw volume and try to chip away at burns. I don't know if burns is that type of fighter. I don't see him KO'ing usman because of his chin.

He'll probably KO burns to be honest. Usman punches will accumulate over the time in the rounds and Burn will be gassed out in the later rounds.
